Technical Scattershield with block plates?

****tershields were required on the dirt cars but we didn't need a block plate. The bellhousing was the same depth as a stock GM cast bellhousing, so no issues with pilot bearings and spline engagement. The bellhousing I have in the Whatever project is a Speedway product, again with no block plate, so no issues with pilot bearings and spline engagement either.

My question is, are bellhousings made for use with block plates slightly less depth to compensate for the plates thickness? And how thick are the block plates? I've done my idiot best to search for the answer, but remember that I am computer illiterate. Thanks for the information...

6-5/16" is the (close) measurement of bellhousing depth, block to transmission surface. This I measured on an old bellhousing, and my almost new Lakewood approved ****tershield.

The Lakewood block plate is 0.125" thick.

Thanks guys. Just what I needed to know. Now to do some redesign of the firewall in the Whatever project!

No, BUT it means what I want to do is viable. As you know, I way overbuilt the firewall with 2, 1/4-inch aluminum plates sandwiching the fibergl*** firewall of the body. The slight change I'm thinking about will allow me to use either a manual transmission and an SFI rated bellhousing, or a Powerglide, again with an SFI rated bellhousing without affecting anything else. More on that coming up in the Whatever project thread, when I get a round tuit...
