Schiefer Flywheel-Info/Help Needed

    I'm building an early 3.5 Rover aluminum V8 and T5 for an MGB. The Rover is the same as the 215 Buick and similar to the 215 Olds

    I recently bought a 215 Olds for parts and was surprised to find the flywheel on it is a Schiefer aluminum one...

    It's drilled for a Long style clutch cover...

    Mine appears to have never have had a steel or bonze insert and looks like it has been run on just the aluminum surface which is somewhat grooved due to this.

    What is the story on these? Can I surface it and run it as is? Is there some sort of coating that was or should be applied (metal spray/flame spray)?
