Has anyone ever used a Chevy Vega steering box for a Schroeder style steering setup?

You just have to mount the pitman arm pointing up.

It's pretty important unless you're real good at steering boats...

If you install the pitman arm pointing down, it will go left when you turn right with a vega box. A reversed corvair box will install with the arm pointing down. Vega boxes are usually used in a cross steer system.

Reverse the Vega box like they do with a Corvair box, then the pitman arm will be pointing down.

August issue of Rod & Custom shows a Vegas box being used, not though the cowl but though the frame. Pitman arm is pointing up.

  13. If you're wanting cowl steering use a 60's mopar box.

Basically the same as on a Corvair, except having to turn off the big hex, to make room for a u-joint to connect the column. After turning off the hex, you have to drill a couple holes for a spanner wrench to tighten the cover/cap.
