What a great car! I started off just like your car too. It was tough to take apart a good car but it makes it much easier modifying the car in good condition then something that is a basket case. Any plans for a chop??

  3. did ya' get the horn ring?

    oh yea............ bitchin' car!

    Awesome car!!

Great story. Couldn't ask for better. You made an new friend, an old hand at the cars that you love, and you got one of the nicest looking cars ever to roll off of an assembly line.

As for the wheels.... I like the look of the wire wheels but I can see why you would want the steel wheels, they look good.
You might think about the color of the wheels, the red goes with the dash in the car!

I'm all for the newer flathead idea.
The original engine is cool but you want enough power to make it fun to drive while keeping the look.

    Great score.

  8. great story dude! i keep telling people it's the sign of the times, economy sucks and what would the elder widow do with the car? what a stroke of luck the kids are into muscle cars for you and i bet mom figured sell it now because after she was gone that would probably happen anyway.

  11. I hope to go for a first ride tonight. That is, after I mow the lawn and if my wife doesn't have other plans for me.

I can't get the fuel pump to draw any fuel from the tank. I threw a vacuum pump on the inlet side of the pump and it hold vacuum. So it appears the diaphram is good. I haven't had a chance to put a short piece of tubing on the inlet side and see if it will suck gas from a can yet. If it will, I'll check the line going back to the tank. I'm thinking it has some rubber line that may leaking air between the pump and the tank.

I'm getting excited for the first real drive. So far it's been to the end of my driveway and back a few times - running off a gravity fed gas can.

  14. While it was fun while it lasted...

Replaced the fuel line and got the fuel pump working. Loaded up my oldest daughter and set out on the maiden voyage over to a buddies house about a mile away. The ride over is great. temp gauge is about 170, oil pressure looks OK - I'm as giddy as a school girl. :D

We get there and my friend isn't home. I lift the hood and give things a once over - life is good.

I head for home and about 1/4 mile from home it happens... Oil pressure drops to 0.

Shit!! Screw it, I baby it home and back it into the garage. I start working around the yard and plotting my next step. Later Flattie with a t5 or a nice y-block... Hmmm...

As I'm cleaning up and step into the garage I hear a loud POP and smell that electrical smell that is never good. I go over and look under the hood and the frickin coil blew up!!! I had apparently left the ignition switch on and the point must have been closed.

Some days are better than others...

Anyone know of somebody that has stuffed a y-block into a '33/'34?? I'd love to pick someones brain about the swap.

    Great score!
Yeah, you've got a running/driving car (for the most part).
I'd fix what's broke and drive the dog snot out of it.
As for wheels, get the 40 solids like you want and keep the wires for a change of pace now and then.
    Congrats!

Very nice '34 and a great story! Congrats! How's your progress, have you decided on the new engine? Hope you stick with a flattie or an early sbc like 265/283!

That will look good. I think the 5.50 was a better choice.
