Scored a 64 1/2 Mustang Pace Car!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Cadillacin Marcus, Aug 15, 2004.

1. My brother and I went out to buy two Mustangs in a guys field, they were suppsoed to be 65's I wrote the VINs and codes off both of them.I noticed right away the both had generators,We bought the cars not running as is for a excellent price.I came home ran the numbers on one to find and amazing discovery..1964 1/2 Pace car 260 2V V8 c-4 indy pace car white, white interior with blue appointments, built in Dearborn,MI scheduled build date April 16,1964!! one of only 185 Pace Cars built by Ford!!20 are known and accounted for this makes 21!!!I nearly p***ed out with excitement!!!! Oh and the other was a good score to a 64 1/2 289 4V car factory 4 speed!!
The pace car is complete,it has a smashed drivers fender and some door rust the car is painted red with red interior, you can see the white underneath it! the 260 is still in the car and unmolested!!..this is an easy resto..the only difficult part will be the Indy 500 pace car lettering,We will need a pro for that....We just finished up the 65 A Code 4 speed GT car..I have been working on this car night and day feverishly..the car is amazing...It seems that I have a knack for the Mustang resto gig..so I'm sticking with it..A 64 1/2 Mustang was my first car and I have owned several since then. They are easy to work on and parts are readily available, not to mention the values just keep going up everyday.....No more 4 doors and oddball **** ...Its all 64 12-66 Mustangs for us now...

Hey guys, I heard that he just got it running and beat a Pro Stock car during a couple of stop light battles! (I won't mention the fact that he ended up p***ing a topped out McLaren F1 at the end of one of the stoplight blasts!!!)

Just f'in with ya Marcus... Good score!

I'm not really into mustangs. Too many around. But I can understand your enthusiasm for finding them. It's cool buying a car and finding out it's a much more valuable rig than what you paid. [IMG]

I like K&R's idea of a drag car, it would be SICK!!!

Nice score! I restored several 65-66 Mustang converts about 25 yrs ago, the guy bought a nice maroon 64 1/2 cpe. I still have a few 64 1/2 specific parts around here somewhere.

The fastbacks are the only Mustangs that turn my crank, and I think the only ones doing much climbing in price too. It seems like the 2 barrel garden variety coupes and convetables aren't worth much more than they were several years ago. But a pace car!!The Mustang gods were smiling on you that day my friend.

12. Heres the sorry sack now..looks like your plain Jane coupe...notice the 260 fender badges and the white on the steering wheel and dash?oh yeah baby!!

15. That's cool.

Do you think it is worth more to turn it the way it is or to restore it and then sell it?

I think if a guy could buy EVERY early Mustang he could find for under $3000 he would be a RICH man in 10 or 20 years... but where you gonna put 'em all?

Glad to hear the Mustang restoration thing is working for you.
Sam.

16. My brother and I were just crunching numbers and going over resources..We paid $1000 for the car the way you see it..So... unless someone was willing to pay $12K-15K as is which I think would be worth it since they are about as rare if not more so than a Shelby. We figure realistically,to do this car correct and I mean CORRRRECT..NOS Parts Concourse etc etc in which we would need some help for sure we come up at $12K-15K total invested..Value of car varies obviously..apprasied show cond on the last one I found for sale was at $49,000 - $55,000 but real street value makes it around $30,000 to $35,000...SO..heres where were at..Find a serious buyer to cough up the cash to buy it as is or go full throttle on this thing and do it up..We would have to get this thing done on IOU's to build to be paid when car sells.I am fully willing to sell The Jimmillac to pay for the project if need be.I can always build another Cad mill but not another Pace Car!Honestly I would like to be able to have the chance to build it and get some exposure on the restoration in Mustang Monthly magazine and maybe some free advertising for Mustang Magic here in Fremont who I have been dealing with since 1988.this is an awesome oppurtunity and a dream come true to say the least!!

You ****! That tartan engine cloth looks suspect but I guess it goes with the Houndstooth trunk mat... [IMG]
Nearly as rare as the '67 NB Shelby GT350 that a guy I know owned here many years ago... (1 of 2 I believe ever produced) [IMG]
Ensure you get a fair deal either way,,,,
Oh by the way, don't show your hand.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sell the jimmillac, which has style, to fund being a mustang restorer?you ARE as insane as some of us have thought! are you doing it for the MONEY or for the LOVE? flip that stang and be done with it! if that car is what you say it is, i wouldn't be talking about it here until it was under my locked posession! if you can't afford to restore it, p*** it on to the goldchainer who can, don't kill yourself just because its "rare", your jimmillac is one of none. honestly i think you would profit more just flipping it like it is. if it's as desireable as a shelby, you got an easy ten grand profit right now. or put a year of work into it, a lot of parts etc, and make 15 grand profit after you pay for the parts?

Nope! It was a notchback that he had. Orange and Black.
289 4 spd. Supposedly 1 of 2. I was told most of the history. It came to NZ and was later onsold and ended up back in the States unbeknownst to the chap who onsold it, what it really was... [IMG]
Somebody must know of these but whether this is the right forum may be questionable...LOL.

25. Sounds like a cheap buy Marcus. Keep the pace car and do up the other 64.5 until you can afford to restore it properly. Simple.

26. 1. Never show your HAND on the net (you should know that by now...), edit can(will) be your friend.

2. decide what you want to do carwise and stick with it. You've been given a opportunity, do it once, do it right.

3. again, choose, rodder or restorer......no half measures.

Wishing you well, nice find.

Cheers,

27. Personnaly I say ....**** THE BIOTCH UP.....I know a dude with 2 GT350's and 5 other fast backs...my fav is the GT350 that sits on a F350 4X4 frame with a BUILT Caddy motor has over 520HP and he only takes it to the dunes to run it as a sand buggy/dune car....has BIG paddle tires on it......but then again I hate Mustangs

R E D M E A T

28. Some of you scare me..really...Yikes! anyways...I don't need to choose restore or rodder..I do what the **** I want..I do both!! Its all good...I'm not some gay ***got who's insecure about what he does and what he likes.I dont grease my ****in hair,I dont listen to certain music and sure as **** dont follow any trends or anyone person and or leader...I've been doing this **** for too long..no need to front..Being into awesome cars like the Mustang doesnt make me any less of a rodder?!!...I think my collection of cars throughout the years speaks for itself...
