Guy in town had 59 olds 2 door hardtop buried under trash;ask 4-5 yearsago if he was going to do something with it and was told "i'm gonna fix it up someday" kept my eye on it.Noticed trash was gone, figured he was actually gonna do something with it. saw him at the diner and ask if he was starting on the olds,he said he guessed he was, starting to get it ready to haul out to the junk dudes place.complained about loading it on the trailer, then asked'you want it? I really just wanted the steering wheel but the price is right.
What size engines were available in 59 88s?its a 2 barrel i think, hoods frozen and opens about 4 inches. has factory air;i'm thinking motor for my a-model if its buildable rearend too. its cool having good luck.

Congrats on the score. 59's came with 394 CI engines, I think. Is it a fairly solid car? If so, it would be a good car to build, especially being an 88 2dr. HT. It would look cool as a super stock class type drag race car, or as a NASCAR style one.:D Didn't a 59 Olds win the 59 Daytona 500? BTW, got any pics?:D

  5. Could be a 371 also. or the 394. Trans is a "controlled coupling" hydramatic if auto. Rearend is definitely save, cool to run the Olds rear with Olds engine. Depending on condition of the rest of the parts, you might make some good cash by parting out what you do not keep for yourself. Congrats, a free car is always a good thing, assuming it is a decent donor or cool car and not a Yugo or Hyundai.

It could be either a 371 or a 394; 371s were still available in '59-'60.

  7. I think in '59 the 88's got 371 and the 98's got 394

Engine size COULD be 324, 371, or 394; probably NOT a 394 if the carb and intake look stock. Can't imagine a factory 394 with a 2 bbl. Just guessin' & that's my guess!

I guess I'm not 100% certain, but I'm about 98% certain the 324 was gone by '59. I thought it went away after '56. I do, however, believe that the 2bbl motors were 371s, but I'll admit it's been a while since I researched it.

Anyway, cool score. Run the early Rocket in the A where it can be shown off, do the body on the 88 and swap in a 455, slap on some cool paint and have a nice cruiser too.

Seems to be the month of the free car around here.
