Interesting report. i read it last week.... the section where they list 100 - 200g forces that were recorded as the car hit various objects is very surprizing.
they had the nerve to make a point about ethanol in his system? what a bunch of idiots. he probably breathed it after the explosion, it's not like he was chugging it.
300 MPH is 440 ft/sec. One G is 32.2 ft/sec^2 so it would have to stop in 0.137 seconds for 100G's. (440-0)/2 ft/sec at 0.137 secs = 30'. I doubt multiple 100G impacts and a 200G.
I dont really know what to say, it still bums me out. I still think it was somewhat avoidable and there is little doubt that the impact with the boom killed him. As I understand the report he was applying brake throughout the shutdown area. I noticed the next day the boom was moved off to the side of the track.
i knew that car hit the camera boom at the end of the track, because when espn showed the video looking down the track at the crash the last thing you could see was the camera boom moving back and forth....Tragic..
