Well, it's far from new, but scored this 69 tr6c from Matt the Rat over at Jimmy White's. I've been looking for a triumph project for a while, something I can build from the ground up. Yesterday Kutty pointed me towards Jimmy. So we hauled ass down to Circle City Hot Rods. Jimmy was happy to see it going to a friend and already offered to give a helping hand when needed. This is my first triumph so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking for a shop Manual for the 650..something I can refer to when building the motor.

    thanks,

    Scott

    Hey Zack! Nice start!

Here's my advice to you about things to get:
    1) All the manuals you can find!! Check with the guys on the JJ for resources
    2) TOOL! Get the whitworth tools! YOu will need them!
    3) If you're going to farm out the motor send it to Wes at Four Aces Cycle. He's a ruler and does great work!
    4) PATIENCE! Triumphs can be fussy for sure!!
    5) See number one again!!!

Oh yeah... let me know if you need more info. I'll be glad to help!

Nice find. That's one of the first motorcycles I rode as a teenager. I love em. The other day I stopped at a garage sale and low and behold, I found a cut away mechanical drawing of the Triumph twin, framed and everything. $2.00. Talk about a surprise! Anyway, looks like you have a good start. You'll love it when you're done and riding it. I'd take it anyday over the two Harleys I had.:D

I just realized I didn't answer your question... British Only, Rabers, British Cycle Supply, MAP Enterprises... all of them have the manuals and parts books. Buy them all! You will use them! I have FIVE Triumph books and I've used each one of them during my build. The parts book is the most important book you will need for sure! To order parts... if you like on-line shopping, British Only is the easiest place to shop for every little nut and bolt you will need for that thing.

Since you will be building your own motor, buy every tool or borrow every tool you need to make things easier for you. All the puller are really helpful for getting things apart easier. They're worth it.

One other thing to check out is a video called "The Triumph Way" by Herbie Hancox. It's like 60 bones, but it's REALLY helpful! I scored one on ebay for my Pre-unit for $35. You might still be able to score one.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Split the cases, remove the sludgetrap, and replace it. Make sure you drill out the "dimple" where the plug was staked in place prior to trying to remove it. Use the newer style plug that uses an allen wrench instead of the slotted one.

Look at these pics close if you don't think you want to split the cases...

    Good luck, and have fun.
