100_1044.jpg This is todays scrap pile . I had this for sale on the hamb i had it in the local paper , the want ad , Couldnt give it away 1940 pontiac 4 door . I saved it from the scrapper and it was a solid car but couldnt keep it anymore needed room for others . I have a deal on two more nicer cars im going to buy fix and sell . Saved all the good stuff and cut it up and loaded it in my 95 dodge dakta sport three trips and it will be gone lol . But this is bad for old cars and the hobby some day we will be paying a lot more money for cars , parts . And yes your car may go up in price but so wont a new project. Just my 2 cents

Here's some of the thirty some vehicles my son bought (not the VWs) to scrap out, most of them run. He gets more than half his money back from the Cat. and aluminum wheels if they have them. He takes items that come off easy like engine Aluminum, starter, gen./ault., pumps, battery, stainless steel trim and also pulls out the wireing. Before he hauls them in he fills them full of scrap metal like the crap that's in the back of the pickup.

It would be nice to set up a continuing thread on what prices are being paid so as to sell or not to.

I'm hauling this in to scrap ina couple weeks. I bought this for one item...the center tooth on the grill. It weighs roughly 5,000 pounds :D
Don't worry though, I'm parting it out in the classifieds and also saving anything worth a shit on it.

  4. I thought the point of these threads was to remind people if they want a project or a parts car, they'd better go buy it now, because next week or next month, it's probably going to be on it's way over to China in pieces. Like the stuff posted above that I'd have to look at and think it would be utterly insane to part out and scrap. I mean, I junk stuff too, but when I junk it it's so rotted and rusty it's about falling apart already.

I just saved a 48 ford coupe and sedan from a guy that was clearing out his lot, he already scrapped all of his other cars(about 20 of them) but he said they were all 60's-70's cars and they were so bad that most of the frames broke in two and none of them were muscle cars.

  7. Not all of the scrap that the chinese buy is going to China. here in Ne ark. there is a steel mill named Nucor Yamato They recycle scrap into steel bridge beams most is used right here in the US. They pay a lot more in wages than they would have to. A friend who runs a crain earned over $80,000 Last year very little overtime. The chinese arent going to make bombs they are just going to osmosis over and buy us little bits at a at a time till they own the country.:eek:OldWolf

  8. That wasn't me ;) .

CRUSHED an '88 Lincoln for $565 and an engineless '73 Impala for $535.

Around here when ya' take a car to the crusher ya' have to show your driver's license and they state on your receipt what the car is (was). Your buddy could find the perp if he wanted to.

With the rebuilding of earthquake torn China, the need for structural steel will probably increase.

You mean just like Germany did before WWII? Just because they are buying scrap to build a bigger war machine doesn't mean they would use the reconfigured steel to kill any of OUR young soldiers would it?:rolleyes:.....................NAW, they wouldn't do that...........would they?
Time will tell. Ever hear that saying "If you don't study history and learn from it, your destined to repeat it." Actually it's too late already, but you'd have to be a student of history to realize that. We're in the process of rubber stamping every great society since the begining of recorded history. Carry on Men.

Two Locke Lawn mowers a Gravely tractor and a commercial bakery mixer =$281.00. I'm thinking about asking for dumpster diving rights on construction sites.
