Locally, it's only $28/ton, but that was two weeks ago. It's probably half that this week. Dropped like a rock right before the China Olympics - they got all our top-quality s**** for their building projects.
Here, they'll take it, but no money. I think it has a lot less to do with the demand from China and a lot more to do with the fact that guys were speculating on it just like all other commodities, and the market for speculators dropped out. Same thing with oil, the demand did not get cut in half in 6 months. I hope this means more junk cars coming my way to strip instead of going directly to the crusher.
Next to nothing right now, local yard has a 500 pound mininum before they will give you anything. Glad I junked all my stuff a few months ago.
I heard somewhere a guy was getting close to $100K for an old junky Pontiac that didn't even have a motor.
Sure can't tell the price has dropped if you go buy new material for a projject. Guess s**** prices don't affect new prices. Still keep thinking it must be made of gold.
Six weeks ago, I s****ped my Jeepster and got $140.00 per ton in Laurel, MS. In addition to that, they came with a roll-on/roll-off and picked it up. Now that the economy has tanked, it may be considerably less.
4 or 5 years ago went to Iowa and bought 2 - 47 Buick Special fastbacks for $50 a piece the guy said they wanted to charge him $65 to s**** them just sold a 48 Buick Super parts car with no front clip for $300 the guy wanted the drivetrain i was going to s**** it, would of got the same money but this worked out better the parts your being used and he picked it up lot of the market high prices were do to China buying up metal hand over fist for the Olympics
How many parts are can be saved of the 57 Pontiac ? I know you can make a good buck on ebay for those parts.
its about damn time hahahaha. scarp here i dont know, this summer it was 385 a ton now its probably 75
s**** here is so low it cost more to haul in gas than you get for the metal....If the cars are in any kind of shape at all offer him 150 to 200 dollars and see what he says.........thats more than he will get for s****....
The price dropped that much? In June I dropped off 1700#, and it was going for $200 at ton at that time. Steve
Yep I was getting $300 a ton about 4 months ago. I got a price of $35 a ton 3 weeks ago at the same yard(recycling). A buddy last week was told he could drop the car off free but they won't buy them (Different yard). I Verified that information with a regular junk yard owner this morning. He was picking up cars and paying $150.00 a piece up to 2 weeks ago and he pays nothing if you deliver them to him now or if he has to pick them up he is charging $50.00 a piece. The bad part is everyone is going to think they can still get that $300 a ton price if they haven't followed along. They won't realize until they remove the cars with the forks or claws at the yard and realize they are losing gas money now and should have sold to one of us for a project.
One thing to keep in mind is that the professional s****pers often have contracts with the mills which can imflate their price per ton. A local s****per I know is still getting $70 a ton through the end of November even though the mill is only paying $25 a ton at the gate. Carmak Riverside, Iowa
