Scrap the caddy???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kellys Hot Rod Parts, Mar 16, 2011.

  1. I have a 1965 Cadillac fleetwood 4 dr.thats been sitting 5 or 6 years. I had it running a couple of years ago. The 500 engine ran strong and the trans shifted good. I really have no intrest in the motor & trans but if its worth something I hate to just s**** it. The car is 90% complete and had new brakes put in before it was parked. My question is should I just junk the whole thing (s**** is 350.00 )or try to sell the parts? I really have little experience with caddys so I hope someone can give some insight as to what this stuff is worth the snow is melting and I WANT THIS THING GONE. thanks Kelly

X2... At least save some of the trim, grille, fenders, dash... As well as a perfectly good 500.

  4. Maybe I could just put in the clasifieds and trade it for parts I could use. I dont have any idea what the engine and trans are worth or if anyone is interested in this stuff.

  5. That's not a 500, more like a 429 with most likely a 4 speed automatic, non-overdrive.

Any Caddy built in the 60's is way cool, and at the rate people are going to CNG these days,
That trunk could lots of low priced CNG tank!

Sell it to somebody who could love it!

    It's a 1965 Caddy!

  6. I'm in Oklahoma, and we have 3 1960 model Caddys right now, and I'm broke. That's why I cain't git it.

That 500 (***uming it's been transplanted, replacing the 429 it came with) is worth something, especialy if it's an Eldorado motor with a rear sump oil pan.

The steering column goes for a pretty penny - it's the first tile/telescoping.

I say put it in the cl***ifieds, and get friendly with PayPal and http://www.shipgreyhound.com/

If it IS the switch-pitch TH400/429 combo, the pokey-outtie oil pump housings go for a bunch of dough (they break a lot), as do those switch-pitch TH400s. Big time, folks will be interested.

Hell, there are folks out there that would love to have the flexplate, or at the very least, the ring gear.

  9. Wow I did'nt even know caddys had 429s someone told me it was a 500 so thats what I thought it was .Like I said I know nothing about these cars...........

  10. If it's original, it will have a 429/TH400.

The front clip sheet metal, and back bumper will interchange with all other '65 Caddy's, but from the front doors back is unique to a '65-'66 Fleetwood. Your best bet in my opinion is to put an ebay auction up for a small part, with pictures of the whole car, inviting people to request specific items. You can sell them outright, or do auction listings. My dad & I have a '66 Fleetwood, and you'll be surprised what people are looking for since nothing is reproduced.

It would be a shame to s**** it...not worth restoring, but a fortune in parts if you (and your wife & neighbors) are patient.

When selling the motor, ***uming it's a 429, make sure to tell folks that the 390 intakes will bolt on with a spacer. The '63 one-year-only 390 and '64+ 429 have the same intake pattern as the pre-'63 390 - the only difference is block width.

  12. You can put it in the cl*** ads but it will need to go in the parts as hot rod parts or donor or something. At least that is my ***umption.

if nothing else someone (including me if I had any cash) would like to have it to motor around in if not use the engine for a hot rod. I would probably ask somewhere in the neighborhood of 800 for it just because if the engine and ****** combo is in good shpe it will still be a cheap heart for someone's rod.

There are also folks that scour eBay for parts - especially interior parts you can't exactly buy from http://www.cadillacpart****alog.com/

You could make a buck or two for sure... especially if you pull the motor and give it a Easy Off/Krylon "rebuild". Folks seem to pay more for "pretty", even though they know it's not rebuilt.

If ya ever get a Cadillac 429, I've been dealing with mine for long enough to hook up with lots of parts sources. Hit me up if you get into that bind, Benno - I'll help ya out!

These guys might be interested in that motor/transmission combo:
    http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Cadillac_6364_club/

The '64 429/TH400 was a one-year-only deal, as it was a changeover year for transmissions. The '64 requires it's own one-year-only flexplate and bellhousing adapter.

If someone in a '64 wanted to swap over into a motor without this weirdness, yours would bolt in.

no 60's or older car should be s****ped out unless it is all rusted to **** or wrecked.

  17. The problem is in some cases it takes more time to tear the car apart than what its worth. I am hoping to find out if this is the case with the caddy.

  18. Yup, people buy with their eyes.
I was a car groomer/detailer when i left school, and i know how much of a diffrence it makes.
Get the boys around, strip that thing, pay boys in beer, clean parts, and watch the cash roll in.:D

Maybe post some pics of the car here. Likely
someone on the list will want either the whole
car - either to fix up , or to use to save another
one, If not, almost for sure, a bunch of people
here will want to buy a ton of parts off it. Either
way, you'll get more money for it than from the
    s****pers.

    1) never s**** any old car,

    2) if you can get it running on the cheap, they do have a following.

    3) older caddys are popular for overseas customers, if running as a ok driver, they are always lookign for good cars to restore, sweden, norway, finland like big american cars

4 remember 10 years ago nobody want 49-54 chev's now they are hot, look at what rat rod guys did , they used up alot of old stuff nobody wanted, early p/u cabs are hot

5 in the late 70's nobody wanted big block mopar muscle cars, now they are worth 6fig's

Well you could part it out if you are so inclined. I think it's a chore and a h***le to do locally. Throw a battery and some fresh gas in and get it so it starts and runs, advertise it for sale whole. That way you can deal with a lot fewer lowballing ***wipes and people who say they are coming over but don't.
