Scrapped my 327 Project for a 283

Due to finding a cracked block in my 327 Chevy, I s****ped that and went with a built 283 instead.
It has been re built using a 1965 block. Its bored .60 over and has 305 heads. It has a .222 .222 duration cam, which I think is a "Thumper?" cam., all new bearings, gaskets, and seals. It's been run on a stand for about 20 minutes.
I bought an Edelbrock Performer manifold, and Edelbrook 550 cfm carb for it. Will use Accell distributor, as well as 2 1/2" Ram Horn exhaust, running the 2 1/2" all the way, probably with Flowmaster mufflers.
This will be going into my '63 Biscayne project.
Due to a "Retired Guy's" tight budget, I will be re using the 3 speed column shift that is in there to start with.
The rear end front section is missing, and I am looking for a rear that is between 3.70 and 4.11.
Any comments or suggestions on what you think the performance on this little whiner will be.
NOTE: This is just a weekend driver "Flash Back" to the 60's for me, as I graduated in 1962. It will keep the current look it has, which is a six cylinder three on the tree with dog dish hub caps, but want to add a little at***ude when it starts up and drives.
Thanks in advance for any comments/advise.
    Cheers,
    Bob:)

Please tell me it's a four door! Had one of those I was going to build a sleeper with, then got sidetracked. The lower rear gear the better with a smaller motor. I'm going to send you a PM for a 4.11 3rd member. Butch/56sedandelivery.

    Good lookin car,

I wouldnt use anything more then 3.73 in the rears. Of course it depends on the ****** gears, and tire size.

Sounds like a sweet combination. However...................your not going to like that 3 spd on the column if it's the factory one for that car. To take advantage of that engine your going to want to shift it quicker than that column linkage is going to allow. If possible find a 4 spd for a lot happier motoring. One of the lower first gear Saginaw boxes or a wide ratio Muncie would be just the ticket.

Love those '63's...of course, mine is a four door, and I'm running a 292 Straight 6...I dig yours!

I feel your pain about the 3 speed...I'm gonna drop in a 4 or 5 speed at some point...maybe once the kids are done with college! :)

Three speed will be fine, but cut a hole in the floor and put a shifter down there. Even a cheap one.
You're an old guy (experianced) so the first gear issue all the young-uns have won't be a problem.

I always liked 3.55 rear gears with the 3 speeds and 283's in full sized cars.

Have fun. Make noise. Burn rubber:D
