I want to go on record saying I like it. Although not conventional I think it will work in the end. It's got a Westgard vibe to it. Will the front fenders get extended or tweaked as well?

Anxiously awaiting the side view of the surprise.....

  5. The "surprise" is still sticking out the passenger side window so it may be a while before you get your wish chinarous! Thanks all. It's coming along. I'm thinking about flattening the rear cross member soon and then a little channel that tapers from the A pillar at nothing to the rear at 4-5 inches. I wasn't planning on any front mods but I may steal kipper's front fender extension idea. Thanks HAMB braintrust!!!

Great thread. Didn't start out a tail dragger fan but you and a couple of other HAMBers are very persuasive in your vision and design. Keep up the excellent work and I'll follow along. Subscribed!

  13. Moving day. All fenders, dash, hood parts loaded in the cab. Last few months have been all about moving. Hope to get back to it soon, having withdrawals. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1397360229.435220.jpg

  14. How are you Gona attack the fenders. Looks good. One long project

  15. Post 147 shows the 37 Packard fenders I picked up. Gonna graft the front of those to the back of some 36 sedan fenders. Long is probably an understatement I don't even think I've hit the halfway mark yet. Gotta get the new house and garage set up and keep the new wife happy too.

  23. Good to have a place to work on your car first. Otherwise, its a royal pain in the ass. I know people that rent and build cars outside in the rain, winter and they are always complaining. I put my money in a house, built a 900 sf heated shop, bought car projects, built conquered and ran out of room. Built a 500sf two story shed and stored stuff in it and ran out of room. Built a1760sf heated and insulated man cave to store the finished projects and added an 800 second story game room, added 2 pool tables and a ton of vintage cool old shit and am still building Hotrods in the heated shop. I don't sit around cheering for sports teams or watch much TV. I build and create. Even during the day I make a living building stuff with my hands. I have been following your build from day one and was the first one saying go for it!! I love what you are doing. When I was building my first Hotrod, I can see the difference from when I started to what I do now,. Its way easier working metal to look good. I'm sure you feel the same. Get that man cave done and start showing us your progress on your killer custom build in a comfortable shop. Build it like you want it and tastelfully and let us all say WOW, he built a totally custom killer car, and be very proud of yourself. It takes guts to do what you are doing and a bit of insanity!! :)

    .

I can assure you there are or will be others who know what the window profile of a real 3 window should look like and recognize the backwards side windows shape.

I truly admire your determination and perseverence! You obviously down played your skill level but there is modesty and then there is b.s. lol! I have loved the '36 3 W since the first time I saw a pic imo they're second only to a '33 roadster in beauty. One of the features that gives this body an "aggresive" look is the way Ford set the top angled toward the front. I can put aside my personal feelings and say we're talking CUSTOMS here not Hot Rods! 50's Custom guys are well known for pie cutting their chops "backwards"! I would like to thank you for all the pics (in particular the ones with the cardboard cut outs for the rear 1/4s) they have given me a bit of an inkling as to how to repair a set of roadster 1/4s that were cut in the depression era to make a truck bed (for which you received extra gas ration). Now i just have to grow a pair and (measure 30x) start cutting

  25. Wow....great Sunday morning read......pretty funny the commentary, especially in the beginning. Glad none of the posts made you cry, and take all your toys home. This site is awesome, and some of the builds are just amazing. You guys lay your nuts out, that's for sure. All the ohhhs and ahhhhs......followed by the next guy with the big fukn' slam your nuts to smithereens hammer ready for ya'. Keeps you in check, huh? Works in progress....always has critics....even before the chisel has hit the stone. Ya' did good man. Unreal honestly. THAT is A LOT of work. One fix, opens up yet another can of shit to ponder. This project is due to make a few more hundred turns, before you are done....and I anxiously await every one. Congrats on the wife, house, garage, and the kids getting to see what daddy is all about. This is gonna' be one sweet little ride. A house full of pride when you're done.

  26. Thanks guys. I reeeaalllyy want to get back at it. The main problem is that the man cave doesn't have a garage door so I'm bringing the car in part by part. The house has everything else we wanted so what the hay...

So now I'm down to the stripped body and then the frame which will have to go through a sliding door with both panes removed. The garage door will have to happen later. All the carpet in the cave will have to come up before much grinding or welding can happen. Right now I'm drinking a corona and watching the padres ( kinda ) so it probably will be a few more years before it drives out under its own power. Doesn't matter ,,I'm convinced it is the journey not the destination that is the sweetest part.

  27. Had to wait til the wife went out for a few hours and the kids were at school but I got er done! I floor jack some hedge clippers and some wood scraps was all it took. Another milestone. Problem is it ain't coming back out til I punch a garage door in the place!

  28. Shit the garage door part is the easy part. SOMETHING I CAN DO !! Yay !
Build that car man, hit me when the door part comes. If you can do that with metal......wood and brick is like Legos to you. Just need to understand squares and principle of such. I'm sure this remains unsaid. Probably already know. No more murmuring from me buddy...............

  29. Ok. This is for the Man, Heyitsnate, Keneth, and Kippers. I've got no excuse. You all are awesome fabricators and I'm not worthy of you all. But you motivate me. Reading your posts make me wanna get off my ass. So I hit the shop today. I worked on cleaning up welds and trying to finish patches on the passenger side. Things went well. Got the patchwork done and knocked down a bunch of internal welds. Plan is to do drivers side same way then work on channeling the floor. I wanna see this thing in primer soon. I'm gonna hold off on fixing the door tops til I get it to ride height. I wanna see if the controversial window taper stays as a signature or if it's gotta go.
