Projects Screw It Im gonna go for it! 36 Ford coupe to be

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by lowcoe, Jan 17, 2011.

  1. This is how I spent my Sunday. After thanksgiving I will set the passenger side to match this vertical belt line. Sorry Car Builder... I felt like if I bought the piece it would be cheating. Next project: Deck Lid gutter. ImageUploadedByTJJ1353290507.722876.jpg ImageUploadedByTJJ1353290526.475133.jpg

Keep at it! It is coming together, and you are to be commended for taking on the build. Can't wait to see that 3 window coupe that will result from all your hard work!

Did you ever think of going with a 37 ford style truck lid. If your going for a custom anyway. Lot of work but cool as hell.

Just stumbled across your build. As usual, when I find some build that's been here for a long time I'm always amazed I never saw it before! Pretty darn nice work for anyone, but especially so for a first timer!

Lowcoe,do Is it for sale?you still have the rear trunk area of the car?

  12. Thanks for all the words of encouragement. I think ol glass eye was referring to my ad I placed to sell the 39 deck lid. Even though Ive had no problem slicing and dicing a pretty nice 36 Tudor, I don't have the heart to make this perfect deck lid meet the same fate. I might play with the idea of doing a 37 type lid though. The Man gave advice to use an original lid. Said it would make my life much easier. I will admit access to the trunk seems like it will be a pain if I use the original.

  13. Um remember when I said the 39 decklid was too nice to cut up.... I think I changed my mind. Tomorrow it gets modified to fit/flow. ImageUploadedByTJJ1354925320.568375.jpg

  14. I've got to make some horozontal slices along each side to take out some of the concavity. Forgive me Henry. ImageUploadedByTJJ1354927502.736239.jpg ImageUploadedByTJJ1354927545.649140.jpg

  17. Wha? Man, you don't like that 39? I'm crushed.

  18. Mr Man. Why do you not have a build thread? I feel like I'm being jipped!

I like the '39 deck lid on there, but wouldn't it be easier at this point to make the body fit it, rather than making the deck lid fit the body? I'm sure you'll make work either way though, after what you've done so far!

  21. Man, I'm sure he woulda let you he just woulda said "pay up sucker".
Flyin, because I lengthened the trunk area 8 inches the decklid needs to be flattened out to achieve the proper profile if I modified the body to fit the lid it would look like someone had rear ended the car.

  22. Ok. So the hinges that I roughed out wouldn't let me open the deck lid. Much head scratching later I figured it out. The goal is a 36 profile. I made relief cuts in the lower half to flatten the deck lid out, I will add material in these areas. I think somewheres I have to remove a little material to get the proper hump. I don't want it to look like a 40. I want 36. ImageUploadedByTJJ1355016208.540626.jpg

  27. Not much progress today. I was working in the yard. I played with the decklid trying to get it looking like a 36. I will make it i open at the base of the curvature. ImageUploadedByTJJ1355533952.731491.jpg ImageUploadedByTJJ1355533968.012991.jpg

  28. Got the deck lid roughed out. Still missing a couple filler pieces on the topside. Then I'll flip it over and get the underside put back together. It's somewheres between a 36 and a 40.
