When using phosphoric acid to strip rust - after the part is done and cleaned I do one more bath and let it dry to create the iron phosphate layer to prevent rust. No rinse. Never had a problem with flash rust or with any paint. I realize the product instructions for POR Metal Ready indicate a rinse so perhaps the o/p did not apply it well enough to establish the protective layer.

Of course your results may vary, my experience is in a desert climate.

There is a big difference in metal prep chemicals.
There are those that convert rust to material that does not continue rusting and those that enhance adhesion to rust free metal.
Reading labels and TDS sheets very carefully is critical.
No offence intended but counter pros paint info can be sketchy. People actually working with the products on a daily basis have a time of it keeping up.

  3. Yes, POR prep products with POR finish products only.

Wouldn't use on body panels though (maybe undersides).
    UV does dull it.

We PORed my Pontiacs ch***is, it was okay until I drilled a hole through the trunk and it peeled like cheap plastic wrap.. Frankly I never liked the fake shinny look to it. I went back to greasing and oiling everything that is not accessible during normal use... I like Lubriplate spray grease. It has a nice flat black look to it.. [IMG]
