    Dirty D,

If you don't have it already, you have to buy a copy of Robert Ganet's The Birth of Hot Rodding The Stories of the Dry Lakes Era. You wanted more info about Jim Nelson and this book is chalked full of cool pictures and stories from him.

  8. Gerry, love that info... it all helps. Talk to ya soon bud!

  9. I'm trying to find out now... I actually have an old tank that looks like this.

  10. Thanks Jimmy B. You always add such killer stuff to such killer threads, I'm always thankful!

  11. I have so much more to share... but I'm kinda busy, I'll get to it.

  12. Gater, funny... Robert is a friend of mine. I talk with him quite often, great guy. He plays cards with Jim Nelson every Thursday still.

  13. Welp, as promised... I never did get to listing the info I had talked about earlier. I need too, found some really neat stuff. It is just so hard to take time to go through it all and then convey to you all. I will get to it!!! Baby and work keeps me busy!

I also got some new stuff, and a few more things coming, I hope.

I would also like to add the my friend Jim Nelson is not doing so well... his Parkinsons is really kicking in. I'll keep you all updated to his condition as I get it. What a great man! Screw his racing history and other accomplishments. This guy is a true gentlemen, a real passionate man, a family man. He touched my heart when we 1st met, he was so honored I cared about him, he cried in my arms and apologized. He said "we are a bunch of family criers"... so we cried. Hahahaa...

I'm bringing up this tread as I am trying to help another friend looking for old history of the "Original" Road Ramblers from 1937. Don McLean, founding member of the club in 1937
gave this plaque to my friend. It is an original from 1939, it is 14" long.

Anyone have any info they can shed, ...parts, plaques, history, etc.? Any info is much appreciated.

    Mel,

What the heck? is your kid like 14-16 yrs old now! I'm just joshin'. You have some great stuff there. I am sorry to hear about Mr. Nelson. These guys have so many great memories and experiences that you want to sit down to hear them all.

BTW, Have you seen the stuff on the AHRF (American Hot Rod Foundation) site? There is even a short video! Cool to see.

Tell Mr. Nelson he has a lot of fans out here and to be well.

Thanks for the update...post more when you can.

  28. Hey Jerry... I laughed too, you think beer would have been 450 and jackets 5 bucks.

I'm assuming that they bought a bunch of jackets???
