is this the CRAZIEST bad idea i've ever had? has anyone ever adapted SCUBA gear to use while SANDblasting? i dont need no silicosis! am i paranoid?
You just need a HEPA cartridge on your typical half face mask like you would use for painting. Hepa cartridges are readily available. Just don't use the charcoal filter cartridge as it will not be effective.
I'm not sure exactly what a p100 is but the right cartridge will be labeled as a HEPA filter. (High Efficiency Particulate Air).
are you talking about wearing your Boyancy Compensator with a tank strapped on so you have fresh air? It would work if you don't have a mixed gas in your tank. with straight air and 3000-3500 psi (in an 80 gallon tank) should give you at least an hour and a half of breathing time provided you are not a heavy breather. But I think I would just invest in a hepa filter or fresh air unit from grainger
ever breathed through scuba above water? I dont think you'd be conscious long enough to get much work done. All this silicosis talk scares me. What's the general concensus regarding grinding disk dust. I know I've breathed that **** from time to time.
Good idea..really..but you could REALLY freak out the neighbors, if you wear the fins too!!.. a touch of N2O would be ok too yes???
Them tanks will get heavy! When I blast at work (in a professional industrial type deal) we use forced air via a Bullard air pump, purpose built breathing air lines, and a forced air hood sits on your head. OSHA approved and all that... When at home I just use a full face respirator, with peel-away-plastic on the lens to keep the sand from destroying the lens. 3M respirator filters will work more than well enough for silica.
Thats great! i had folks lookin at me funny for laughing out loud here at work! Thanks for all the input guys! i'll invest in some good HEPA filters!
kustomrodder, i've been thinking about a full-face respirator too... where can you get the peel-away-plastic? (probably right next to the mask on the shelf at the store right?)
...Man you got me on that one... I get 'em from work, so I don't really know what stores might have 'em... But if you want I can get you the 3M part number...
