My first car was a 1951 Ford. I never really got into Flatheads at that time. If I remember correctly, I was more interested in girls. Now that I'm retired, I have acquired a 1949 Mercury from an old friend. The engine was last run in the early 60's. The engine is a period piece with three 97's, Eldebrock manifold, Fenton aluminum heads, Harman-Collins cam & dual coil distributer. I have it scheduled for the machine shop in about two weeks.

My reason for joining is to keep from making mistakes while bringing this project back to life. Thru this site, I have located a company to rebuild the distributer. I am rebuilding the 97's myself. I do have some questions about esthetic issues like how do you clean & refurbish the appearance of finned aluminum heads and what is the correct finish on an intake manifold, polished or dull (bead blasted)?

I'm also into Four-Wheeling and have a modified '91 Jeep Wrangler. My other project is a '55 Chevy 2DR post with a 406 cu. in. SBC & TPI.

I'm sure there will be more question as this unfolds. For now, thanks for a place to do research and ask questions.

    Regards,
    Jeep-Joint

That project Merc sounds awesome, have any pictures to post? You will run into lots of folks here who know their flatheads. Welcome to the board.
