Hi guys, Over the years I've seen guys enquiring on the HAMB regarding information how to, or special tools for the removal of the common o'l oil seal.. Well I just replaced a leaky Seal, and took a few pics, which I hope are easy to understand for one and all. Starting at the old seal pic... 1. A sharp spike is needed for knocking a small hole in the edge of the seal.. 2. Find a suitable self tapping screw, and just start it by a couple of threads.. 3. End nippers/side cutters will get er out.. 4. Clean the shaft of rust/dust, and then with fine grit sand paper/wet and dry.. 5. Clean and lubricate the seal lip and shaft, feed the seal on carefully, apply a skim of sealer to the out seal edge.. 6. Find a suitable sized drift (contacting nearset the seal edge) and persuade the seal back in to the housing.. And there you have it, job done, no expensive equipment needed.. Don't know what's up with the pics, (posted as large images, maybe too many) or possibly mobile phones and big fingers don't mix too well..
Done plenty of them same way . Great advice thank you . Lots of them I used the floor jack handle to drift it into place .Sealer on the outside is a great tip also .
deathrowdave, long as it's the right size for the seal, a jack handle will definately do the trick, plenty of room to move when you miss with the hammer, lol, No 5 has apply sealer to the outer edge of the seal, it's also seen in one of the pics towards the end.
