I recently bought a '31 Fordor with a really decent body. I am about to sand it down to metal and seal it to make sure it stays nice. Does anyone have a recommendation as to what sealer to use that is compatible with multiple types of paint? (I'm not sure what I am doing about paint yet) Also, any recommendations as to what sealer to use for areas I doubt I'll be able to completely clean, like the inside of the doors? This will be a build on a budget too. Thanks!

Clean it up real good and put epoxy primer on every inch of it in and out. It will be just like that when you are ready to mess around with it later.

I wouldn't sand any paint off until I was sure what type of paint I wanted to use. Like you surmised, top coats and primer/sealers must be compatible. Better to do all that work once than twice.

You didn't elaborate on the condition of the body,if there is existing paint I would wait until you are ready to paint.

If you have any rust repair, you can sand 0r sand blast the area to be repaired, fix the rust and shoot it with a epoxy primer if it will be a while before your ready to strip and paint. HRP

Epoxy. I've put everything from nitro lacquer, to acrylic enamel, to Candy urethane over it. As long as it's cured, any brand or type can topcoat it.

If it's not sitting outside, I would not worry about it. If it's outdoors, epoxy it.

PPG DP Epoxy. Absolutely bulletproof and excellent corrosion resistance. Can go over bare metal, sanded paint, under body filler, etc. Just remember that ANY true Epoxy typically has a window where it needs to be scuffed and reapplied over itself to topcoat...

If you want to take it to metal to see what you have then hit the bare metal with 80 grit and use epoxy primer . You can sand your door jambs and what ever you are not taking down to bare metal and use the same stuff. Once its bare metal you need to prime it asap [like that day]
