I'm re***embling my '54 Skyliner and on the list is the upper channel for the rear side window and the door window. From the factory it was sealed to the roof line by a bead of tar. What is a good subs***ute? Caulk, silicon something else?

Use a good grade of seam sealer. Any automotive paint supply shop will have it. That's for interior only. For anything outside that's gonna be painted (rain gutters, trunk gutter, etc.,) nothing works better than 3M panel bond.

You might say it is an exterior piece. It is the roof rail that is fastened to the upper portion of the roof line. It has a seal covering it that the windows roll up into. As you can see the bead of tar doesn't make complete contact through out it's length. DSC04805.JPG
