I guess I need some help in using the search option , here on the HAMB. I can’t seem to find stuff here using it, when I know it is here on the HAMB, or at least I think it was here. I usually use the most important words to find a post, but then a bunch of stuff comes up that seems really off the wall! For Example there was a thread a while back where a guy was going to attempt a 3.03 Ford transmission rebuild, and I wanted to contact him as I found a good one for $50. I put in “ 303 transmission “ came with every thing but the thread I needed. Then “ 3.03 transmission “ , then Ford three speed transmission “ and on and on and it seems the thread just doesn’t exist! There have been many times I just can’t find something using the search option! Any advise? Bones
Yeah the search can be sketchy at times. Best tool for me is to use the "watch thread" option when I find a good one. It's up there, just under the red line, opposite side of the page from the big "go to first unread" ****on.
Try this: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/2466433?hl=en#:~:text=Search for a specific site,gov .
I’ve used Google to find HAMB searches. It hones it down very well most often. But do not include the word HAMB in the search.
go advanced try narrowing it down, just type "3.03" narrow it down again by searching ***les only or a certain forum
It's difficult due to the way some guy's ***le their posts. ***les need the subject matter in them to get the search engine revved up.
No,I actually found that one! I have looked so much and haven’t found it, I am beginning to think it must have been somewhere else! But I have had extreme problems finding a thread or post before and did eventually find them , using some of the techniques mentioned by other folks above! It just seems odd to me that it should be so difficult to find things here. And why when I ask the search option for a specific item, it shows many things not even close? I always figured I was doing something wrong, but I guess other folks are experiencing similar problems! Bones
It may have gotten deleted. I’ve went to search like for something and got everything but. I think it will also disappear from your recent post list. Sometimes a lot of good info is lost that way.
how about this one? https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...3-speed-ran-transmission-diy-rebuild.1216724/
Well, that is just it! I can’t remember if I posted anything or just read it! I just remember he had a 303 that was pertty jacked up..with broken teeth even. Later I stumbled onto a supposedly good truck 303 for $50. Just thought I would inform him of it, saving him some headaches! I have always had a fondness for those mixers! Bones
No, the thread had a picture of the transmission the OP was going to try to rebuild and it showed some of the teeth were broken. Here’s the thing, I know I saw it somewhat recently……like a few months. I searched fairly hard and could not come up with it…I usually can find a thread, if I look hard enough, but this one has eluded me, leading me to believe it does not exist here. I have given up, but it just reminded me of all the struggles I have had in the past looking for something here on the HAMB…..was just wondering if I was doing it wrong or what? But I see others struggle with it also. And I understand the importance of correctness! Like looking ”3.03” will not bring up “303”. And misspelled words can trip you up. It probably was on another forum, due to all the help I have received and still no find! But the difficulty of finding stuff here, still exists, in my opinion! Bones
you posted on this thread https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...3-speed-ran-transmission-diy-rebuild.1216724/
That is the rub….not sure! I actually went back to my profile page and reviewed my posting and saw nothing! I kinda thought I posted something, due to my fondness for this transmission, but really can’t remember! Like I mentioned, I tried to find it and most times I can find the post I’m looking for, but not this time. It looks like to me if I put “ 303 Ford Transmission “ in the search option, it should bring up all related post, the arrange them chronologically, it should show up! If it doesn’t, keep changing the words, like 3.03 instead of 303, leave “ Ford” out, etc. By the way ,guys, I not complaining , just trying to figure this out, as I do use this feature from time to time! Bones
I do not remember. Either the thread was deleted, or I am mistaken about it being on this forum! Too many folks have searched for it and haven’t found it , for it to still be here. I have received some pointers here and have found some reinforcement with the difficulties regarding the search option. I guess I’m just an old guy in a new world! Edit: Thanks for taking the time to help me! Bones
Insert yout search terms exactly like this in the Google search box. 303 ******: www.jalopyjournal.com https://www.google.com/search?q=303+******:+www.jalopyjournal.com&client=safari&channel=iphone_bm&source=hp&ei=cmECZOeDJuuOwbkPjYa6kAc&oq=303+******:+www.jalopyjournal.com&gs_lcp=ChFtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1ocBADOgIIKToOCAAQjwEQ6gIQjAMQ5QI6DgguEI8BEOoCEIwDEOUCOgUIABCABDoICAAQgAQQsQM6CwguEIAEELEDEIMBOgsILhCABBDHARCvAToICAAQsQMQgwE6CwguENQCELEDEIAEOgsIABCABBCxAxCDAToLCC4QgAQQsQMQ1AI6EQguEIAEELEDEIMBEMcBEK8BULEZWO2GA2CQkwNoAnAAeACAAecBiAHrIJIBBzE4LjEzLjOYAQCgAQGwARA&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-hp#ip=1
I have the same problem @Boneyard51 ... I remember **** that never happened, and don't remember what I had for breakfast!! But hang in there, you'll find it.
Hello, It is the problem with folks who post topics with misspelled words or a comma where is should not be placed or even colloquial language. It looks cute on the board and people will read it, but try and find it later is a big problem. If you type in the correct spelling, it gets rejected, and so on... not giving up on any search parameters, I tried this way on the Google Search. "HAMB 3.03 gears" This is what popped up on the Google search: (When anyone copies a thread ***le on any search, copy and paste it onto a Word Do***ent first. Then click 5 times and "enter" for the next line of pasting. I tried direct "enter" and it messed up the search paste. So, through trial and error, click 5 times after posting the copied google search link. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/how-much-abuse-can-the-ford-3-03-take.651242/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tell-me-about-this-3-speed-toploader.1067492/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/ford-3-speed-help.1283234/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/ford-toploader-3-speed-iden***y.1082521/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/t-170.1195116/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/overdrive-for-3-speed-toploader.1086762/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/3-speed-with-synchro-first.628183/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/3-speed-manual-v-5-speed-manual.684420/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/ford-toploader-to-sbc.463593/ Jnaki Typing in the search ***le on the HAMB direct search with ***LES ONLY checked does little to none. Brings up one topic thread. Now, with the box not checked, brings up 2 full pages of mention topic information on 3.03 gears. So, it is back to the Google search to see how the misspelled ***le or odd presentation of words made the topic on the HAMB pages. If you want to do more Google searches, then type in H.A.M.B. not HAMB sometimes it gives a different search results. Then, the list grew: So, you can do your own copying and searching...
