    Thanks to the Losers who got my other Thread Closed, so I could not add other incoming information, I now attach the pic's for you all to see and give some thought to your safety, remembering this vehicle was fitted with seat belts and all survived as per my earlier;
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=373237

A picture tells 1000 words so I will not waste my time explaining especially to Losers who seem to screw up more than their fair share of Threads for others.
To the rest of you guys & gals here you go.

Thanks to the Moderators for only Closing my previous Thread and not Locking it so you can go back and read it.

Wow! even with seatbelts it's amazing that the injuries weren't alot worse with that much damage. Hope they recover 100%

That's a big hit for such "minor" injuries. I could see some carnage there without seatbelts.

Sad end for a nice car too.

Thanks for posting, I missed the first one. I think this is the same accident that was mentioned on another website. Glad everyone survived, that is one heck of a kit. I'll go read the other post now. ................Back to reality, someone should buy that wrecked A for use as a display in their seat belt sales business. Was the guy that hit them on a cell phone at the time?

Glad they survived and will be okay and recover, too bad about the car though, but at least they are alive.I had a club member that p***ed away early Valentine's Day morning due to an accident where he wasn't wearing a seat belt,he was only 20 years old.
I'm putting a face with what I just told everyone, and remember, this was in a modern safety equipped vehicle(His daily driver PT Cruiser),and he was like a little brother to everyone in my club:

Wow!! I hadn't seen the pics. ****'s Pheaton was one of my favorite stockers 'round these parts. He ran it coast to coast at least once that I know of.

Even if the truck and the A were each just doing 30, that's 60 combined. For a head on, the crush depth isn't that bad. It didn't get into the ****pit, which is pretty amazing considering we're talking 80 year old technology. Thank God no one was killed.

Just want to say one thing.

Wearing a seat belt or not, if your driving like an idiot and you flip the car, especially in an old car that we can all agree don't exactly have the best safety, your pretty much doomed.

So really its a case of, if you wanna drive like an idiot, seat belt or not your basically risking your own life.

    Basically I'm saying, drive responsibly.

Wow- that was a bad one. I'm surprised the injuries weren't worse.

I remember seeing a pic a few years back of an A that was hit by a newer Ford truck. To me- the damage didn't look bad (nothing like that!) but both husband & wife were killed.

Yea- that's the one. Happened 4 years ago & is much worse than I remembered. No seat belts according to the text! That hood through the windshield is scary stuff.

That model A sure defended well with such a big hit.

My thoughts were that had his braking been more modern it may have reduced his end of the hit speed which could have also helped to reduce the impact and bone crunching effect.
Just a thought and I dont want to go into the in's and out's of brakes but when it is a head on hit you sure want to drop the impact speed as low as possible.
It was a restored car and nothing will change that but hot rods do have the advantage of more efficent braking.

I know **** well although distance prevents us both from see each other that often, but I never knew he had seat belts fitted.
I hold him in greater esteem than before because of that decision and it would have been a big concession for **** to do that since he was such a stickler for originality etc. A bit like we can be for our Traditional principles.

It turns out to be one of those common sense over principles decision that paid off big time.

I hope **** will have the return of good health and the motivation to rebuild his famous phaeton.
In the past he has been such a generous parts supplier to folks all over and I am sure folks will rally together to ensure he has access to parts he will need for a rebuild and helping hand should he need that also.
I know he sure deserves it.

No much room up front in one of those phaetons so lucky it did not crush up to much.
I was pleased to see the gas tank did its job and held up.

    I think you misunderstood.

Drama killed that Thread, and that seemed to come about equally from both sides of the argument.

Remember that somebody who opts to not retrofit seatbelts in their car has as much of a right to his opinion as you do.

Its amazing to me that the p***enger compartment doesnt look too bad, all the crushed metal is in front of the firewall. I would have thought the whole car would end up like an accordian.

Yes I agree, I was kinder surprised my self to see how well it held up.
Henry's double door catches which are still a safety item these days seemed to hold things together better than I would have thought.

when I see a wreck photo of a vintage car where the steering wheel is bent like that I just got to wonder how much force it takes to do that. how big of a hammer would you need if you were going to bend a wheel that way?

your chest and face has to be softer than a steering wheel.

  27. I deal with the aftermath of road accidents every day at work. I am in Australia's largest and busiest Emergency Department. Anyone that thinks seat belts are not all that important I invite you to spend a day telling family's there loved ones just died, I had to do that twice today, one because he was not wearing a seat belt, the other was the motorcyclist he hit.
So think of us emergency workers too, firefighters, Recue, EMT, Emergency Nurses and Doctors. We too have to live with what we see come through, no matter who you are it affects you.

Well said Doc, it seems that you can only preach to the converted here.
I have been in a slow speed head on accident in 1996 and I still live the with the aches and pains that go with it and I was wearing seat belt, God knows what I would have ended up like with out it.
Then 6 years of work and nearly as many pain killers as Mr Jackson.

  29. You left out the Fuzz who can be first responders also. Doc you hit stuff on the head more often then anyone else on here meng.-Weeks

  30. I did to, and I apologies to all police officers. Your right they are usually on scene before anyone else. It must be hard seeing some of the injuries and only able to give basic first aid until we show up.
    Doc.
