In the U.K, pre '63 cars don't require seatbelts . . that said I went about 5 years after getting my license driving various motors and not wearing seatbelts whether they had 'em or not . . .
In that time I had a couple of shunts but came out O.K.

I used to drive around in my motors not at all bothered about 'belts . . . Unfortunately I do more and more miles for work and have really noticed the frightening number of complete arseholes on the roads.

It's made me concious of it when driving my '58 . . . If anything did happen it probably wouldn't be my fault and if my Caddy hit a crappy Eurobox it'd come off fine . . . . I'm just not convinced I would, though.

Each to their own - I still run my Caddy without them but I'd be lying if I said I haven't considered installing seatbelts . . . .

Too much weight and cost i could build it faster without them

But really if it wasnt needed in 1964 it aint needed today after all things were better then right?

A friend of mine is in a coma right now because he wasn't wearing his seat belt. The accident wasn't even his fault, he was T-boned but if he had had his seat belt on he wouldn't have been ejected from his truck. I hope he gets better.
Two seconds putting his belt on coulda saved him from this horrible fate.

Back in '66 while in the AF we were given the option, No seat belt lose a stripe. I guess I got into the habit very quickly and to this day I wear them including my 'vert. At 60mph you are traveling at 80' a second you do the math....

That had to be one hell of a tough driveshaft! Funny that I've heard that same story 100's of times but never seen proof that it happens.

I hear that!!! preach on brother! This country definitley needs a major overhaul and tougher driver training program. Another one of my favorite quotes: "Don't make better cars, make better drivers!"
