Hey all. .... its summer time and I gotta get some seatbelts in my car so i can take my little girl for car rides. I know that to get the rear seat out I gotta lift up on the front and then I can bolt in some lap belts.....but are any of you using car seats in your classic cars? Ps I have a 51' Mercury. ...thanks

Are you talking about car seats that clip to the floor/seat (LATCH style) ?? I have used loops for race belt harnesses , bolted to the floor for that style of car seat , both rear-facing and forward-facing in old cars. I have also used a lap belt to hold a car seat in place (one with full harnesses).
Now my daughter is old enough , she is using a booster seat with a 3-point belt , so I need to add 3-point retractable belts in the rear of my shoebox . I will be doing that very soon.

Is that the kind of info you were looking for ?

4 x laps in my 35 Chebby phaeton and retractable lap sashes in my 46 Olds sedanette, centres are lap sash. I upgraded to 6 x positions from 5 positions. Rules down here require DOT seat belts in modified cars. More rules for child restraints and where they can sit based on age / size, booster seats / capsules etc. I wouldn't drive my cars without compromising my safety and that of my passengers, especially with younger ones on board.

Thanks mgtstumpy.....what do you mean by 6 x positions? I was planning on 4 lap belts and bolting something in for a LATCH kind of set up

I used Juliano's Street Rods three point belts in my '65 Stude. I put them in the front and rear (none in the middle). The brackets had to be modified a bit, but they work good. Now I can take the granddaughters with me.
Thought not particularly "taditional" I have seen Sebring convertible seats used in Studebaker trucks, so I imagine they would work elsewhere as well. They have three point belts build it. My son is putting a set of Cadillac CTS seats in his '58 Hawk. They seem to fit well and again provide the seat belt system a lot of us are looking for.

6 x seats in total as originally 2 in front with split folding seat, upgraded to 3. I added an additional centre belt to front along with 3 x reinforced child restraint mounts to rear parcel shelf. Mounts in upper 'B' pillars, underfloor, rear parcel shelf. Lower 'A' pillars were a PITA and required reinforcing as retractors are in front of rear arm rest just above floor area. Belts are colour coded with interior so they blend in. Unfortunately there is no way around installing belts down here, mandatory registration requirement and I wasn't going to keep car original to do that.
