Has anyone used these belts before and if so do you like them? I don't particularly care for them,,I prefer the conventional lap belt with the aircraft type latch. HRP
The reason I'm looking at them are for my Grandkids.My Falcon has no belts and they would only be used when they are in the car.For shows or when they are not riding the belts would be removed.Only for the safety of my Kids not for looks
The safety of your Grandchildren is paramount to what anyone thinks,they appear to be well made and if they will work in your situation by all means install them. HRP
I would do whatever makes things as safe as possible for the grandkids. They dont look bad...go for it!
How old are your grandkids? Maybe they need car/booster seats? But, definitely some kind of belt/restraint for everyone, cool or not.
Regardless which seat belt you use, the most important thing is how they are anchored. Merely running a bolt through the floor, even with a washer, will allow the floor to tear like a can opener if stress put on the bolt as in a collision. Juliano's sell an anchor plate (JU010600 $15.00 Per Pair) that has cupped shape and rounded edges to prevent shearing. In the event of a collision, the floor could dimple but won't tear. These anchors mount to the underside of the floor and have a nut embedded to receive an anchor bolt. I have installed them on several pre-belt cars. When seat belt laws were brought into Ontario, serious injuries resulted due to improperly anchored belts. Keep those loved ones safe.
I know it's overkill but I was thinking of running 1/8th x 1 1/2 flat strap between the frame rails and weld it in.Then I could put 3 sets of belts on it.On the front buckets I could use those cupped plates.I have 12 Grandkids but only the older ones can ride in the Falcon I have other Cars for the others.Thanks for all y'all's help
This style of belt was very popular in Australia in the 70's. This style was the pre cursor of the racing harnesses of today and worked good! Who is selling them? cheers Wayne
Hey Veach, I Googled the part number and it opened up to the Wesco page, I will order a pair now as I have been looking for a while for this style of belt. They are not as captive as the newer style belts but keep you secured enough so that you can still move around enough to operate wipers , indicators etc, been a good find for me to! If you are ever unfortunate enough to be involved in a accident you do need good anchor points that was pointed out in a earlier reply but tying it to the frame rails wouldn't be prudent. In a collision everything needs to move to help absorb impact and as the p***enger moves forward there needs to be some movement at the anchor points,,with a larger anchor plate the floor can distort and move while helping minimize the possibility of injury. Now think if the anchor was a 1/8th x 1 1/2 and welded to the frame rails,movement in that area would be drastically reduced and could result in additional injury. HRP
I Thank You a lot for that info never thought of that and your right.That is way these old Car could be in a wreck and have a small dent and everybody died.This is a Great site when Members help Members.I truly Thank Y'all for Your Help it means a lot to me
