seats? from stock to a foam covered bucket seat, bars were usually just a hoop back then, now you can build whatever you can
    afford too

I want this car to look just like it came off the drag strip back in the early 60's. I cant remember any of them using a stock bench seat.

The super stock Fords used early Econoline van seats, and the Mopar super stockers used A-100 van seats. If you ever see any of these in the junkyards, especially the Mopar ones, nab 'em. The frames are worth at least $100 to the Mopar guys with early B-bodies.

I personally have a pair of each for my g***er project. Just trying to determine which to use. One pair is slightly lighter than the other, but has less springs in the bottom to support. I forget which is which now. I'd have to look but they are in storage.

Mount them on aluminum brackets like the super stock Dodges used. Those had round holes (possibly bellmouthed?) cut in the sides for lightening/appearance. These brackets are available in repop as far as I know, but might not be cheap. You could make your own, but then neither is a brake or hole-punching dies cheap, either.

  8. I bought these off of eBay for $20 bucks, don't know what they'll look like in the car but I saw a pair in a picture somewhere like these and they looked pretty period correct. I'm going to put in a 4-point cage in my '56

I've heard people useing buckets outta an MG before, nice low back small overall size. You could look for a set of seats outta a early A-body Mopar(Valiant, Lancer, Dart)which look very similar to the B-body seats but are a lil' narrower(1 1/2" I think)and easier to come by.

If you use the fiber gl*** seats, they need to have a tubing frame for them. They brake in an accident. I've seen one fatality in a street stock because his unframed fiber gl*** seat broke. I've seen guys walk away from wrecks that were a ton worse. If you like that style you may look for some of the old low back aluminum sprint car seats.

Personaly I like the aluminum seat idea. However, if you're looking for a traditional, basic-looking low-back seat, look at a replacement early flatfender or CJ Jeep seat. You can find them in JC Whitney or any Jeep magazine. They look period-correct and are reasonably lightweight too. They just have a nice, uncomplicated appearance.

Low-back fibergl*** buckets like the ones pictured, with black vinyl covers were standard issue g***er... as well as D-100 Dodge van seats... Mustang seats, maybe... but they were heavier and seen more in the F/X cars...
