I dont think there is ANY car that can not be identified and the history un-earthed by the HAMB populace.

Friend of mine, who deals in 55-57 Chevrolet cars and parts, was trying to swing a deal on this car. Told me all about it; then, when I saw it on the HAMB I told him, ticked him off. Biggest deal he said about the car was NO title. And, about the Spivey-Anderson 57; that was a 150 sedan converted to 210 trim, and a Stock or Super Stock Class car. In fact, I traded an old hydroformed scattershield for the cast iron powerglide that came out of that car. It used to cruise the Everett area all lettered and decaled up after it's days as a drag car were done. And it was white! That had to be early/mid 70's.

Just curious why he would be ticked off?? The car was listed on Craigslist, and we were told by the owner it had been for sale before It was on the Seattle site, and the owner was miffed as it had been flagged down. He didn't know why, I have a pretty good idea why. He then posted it in Portland CL, which is where we saw it. There was no deal to be swung, the price was firm. Contacted him at 8pm, and we were in Seattle to get it at 6 am the next morning from Oregon, back home by 4. We dug the car and wanted it, the owner wanted to sell it. The car was pictured on the HAMB - One: to find out more info. Two: to share the find with y'all. The car is here to stay. It will be preserved to a point, put back in running order, and driven, raced, and had fun with. It will be wicked. We appreciate all the info and leads we have gotten, and will post pics as we move along. BTW - title, NOT the biggest problem, it has one! :)

Well that is quite a find, actually I owned that car fore over 15 years so I have a pretty good idea of the history behind it. The was car originally own by Frank Welsh who bought it new and turned into a gasser with in a couple of years. As the story gose Frank raced the car locally for a few year but when his wife decided to leave him she made sure to take the one thing he really loved, that car. At first the car still had its floor boards intacted but after she took the car and let her new boy friend have it he took the floor out of it and replaced it with what you see now. Frank at some point managed to get the car back. Me and my dad had found the car in 1989 when I was I 14 in the back of field sitting on a flat bed trailer, and I do believe it was the Redmond area. The car has since been shifted around from Ballard, Edmonds, Monroe, Lake Stevens and then to Lynnwood. When we first got the car the mounts for a moon tank were still there ,other then that the only thing that has been changed was that we added a trans crossmneber and motor mounting points for a non engine plate set up. I traded the car to Ron for a 1955 210 post car about a year ago. Now the 55-57 parts guy that someone spoke of who was ticked off was Larry, now he had every chance to get that car from me and we even had a deal set up right down to the hand shake that he backed out of last minute, actaully he just stopped returning my calls when it came time to trade cars. At that time Larry had been after me for better then 5 years for that car. But thats a whole nother entertaining story. Anyway if you want to know more drop me your number and I will give you all the little details. Now that you have her, just make sure to do her some justice and get her on the track once again. Oh, the rear end is a 1957 Pontiac with I believe 5.13 gears and the front axle is a supper bell. At one point I did have the brake calipers sitting around but they have disappeard. The spindles on the axle I believe are the same as a 49 Chev.
    Good Luck

    Amazing!

  6. We have a '55 hardtop that was built to drag in '62, a lot like this car - motor set back, flip nose, and so on - and it has stock leaf springs with the '57 Pontiac rearend, it's supposed to be a bolt-in.

So my dumb question - why go to coils? I'd have assumed it was a '58 or newer rear on the basis of that, unless it was obvious it had leaf perches removed. (it's also a little easier to run a limited slip in the 58-64 rearends).

That's an interesting car, glad to see that it went to a good home where it may finally get put in great shape.

And it is the right color for a mean tri 5.

Yes Sir!! Gotta love the HAMB. I have pm'd you my #, and Charlies phone numbers, and since Charlie is the one building the car, he is the best one to call. The plans at this time are for Big Block power - nasty, mean and bad ass fast, nuthin' less. We have rounded up some pretty cool parts, and have decided to go a little slower than faster - to do it right - but it shan't be long before "Lurch" (mean lookin', always dressed in black, and answers 'you rang?') hits the tracks, and maybe even the street again. Wonder if there are any pics of this mutha doing the 1320???? Anyone?? We'll keep you all posted as it progresses, I promise. Here's a couple more pics from the first day Lurch arrived....
Thank you so much for the info and the contact Bluerabbit! Tim :)

The saga of 'Lurch' continues I kept my fingers crossed and ended up with the car. I'd like to think the car is in a happy place once again, and I am gonna do my best to be true to what this car has been. Now trying to find out what the heck kind of brakes the front end had, and gathering some bits and pieces to et it back together. Also looking for heater delete and radio delete plates for a '57. Anyone have any that would like to help an old gasser get back on the strip/street? Also looking for a decent pair of 5 on 5 15 inch slots for the back. I can post the size/backspace if there's any around. Here's some front brake pics.....
