Some might know that here on the east coast of Canada there is not a lot of old iron to chose from. My project is a rusted hack that I`m bring back from the dead. Well find parts is not easy at all unless you ship it in and that at times is very costly living on a island.Well about a Month or two ago I had a chance to get a parts car.Now not much left to the body but a whole bunch of parts that I needed. The car sat for over 15 years in this guys yard.It was full of parts from a second 52. I ask if it was for sale and he told me yes $300.Offered 200 He turned me down flat.I figure I sit on it and try again in a month or so.Well I get a call a few weeks after I was at his house and he was having it hall away and crushed. I made some phone calls to try to save the car and is was not going to happen. The owner wanted it crushed. Sadly it was crushed.Lost out on the car!! This car is the black car in the first pic. This was her last ride heading to the crusher. Well Today I was told about another 52 chevy.Car was for sale and the owner is not letting it go for less then $500. I went to look at it and find that there is a number of parts and gl*** I could use and the front sheet metal is in better shape then mine. Now the cheep side of me think it is too much for a parts car.I paid $150 for the car I`m build!! the question is do I just **** it up and pay the man and take the car. $500 is a bit high for my liking. convince me it worth it!!

The time to buy is when you find it. You have stated the front clip is better than what you have. You could save five c notes right there alone. I know we don't count our labor for much but if you could be using the lost time to earn more money for parts etc. maybe money spent now is a bargain.

So you bought your original for $150, you p***ed on another that had a bunch of stuff you needed for $300 and it got crushed, you managed to find another one that is in better shape than either of the other two for $500 and you need convincing you should pick it up. Not sure if you are noticing a trend here but they are getting more expensive not cheaper and I don't think too many more are on their way to the Rock.

If you can afford it buy it. The first one was worth 300 the visor would be a quick $100.00 sale. Some days $300.00 is hard to come up with in a pinch.

Vehicles of this era are getting hard to find in any condition...If the opportunity presents itself...you must buy when you find...Having one lost and crushed over $100 bux is sad to say the least...Dont let this one slip away, and possibly suffer the same fate...

I'd say offer him less so you can watch it getting crushed.
If tin is that hard to find there, bite the bullet and get on it if you need it.
Right now just about any car will go across the scales for $250-$250 around here.

Money talks...BS walks...you already lost one to the crusher (and a guy that would crush it instead of argue price)..want to chance that again...??? You don't need convincing, you need your head examined.

The body on the green one looks better than the car you have in your profile albums and you are having a problem with a little investment? If I were a chevy guy then I would jump on the $500 one and use that as the car to build and the car you already have as a parts car.

you said yourself , hard to get parts or cars where you are , is it worth buying another $150 parts car and paying $500 to get it shipped to you ? you could have scored the first one and maybe got at least half your money back selling stuff on the for sale board

Buy it ,strip it and part it ,You should easily get your parts and a return ,Its only 500

  12. I'd have to say if you wish to finish your car and need many parts off that car, calculate shipping for the parts you need without even counting purchasing those parts and I think the math alone will answer your question. Plus you may sell something off of that car also.

The third time isn't alway the charm. You got lucky to find another parts car, if you can afford it and not hurt yourself financially.

Dude, that's a $1000 car here in California. $150 cars don't exist down here. Pick it up, use what you need and part the rest. You get to keep all the parts you need and you'll probably make your money back and then some on the resale parts!

This shouldn't even be a discussion!

To put it bluntly, you ****ed up on the first parts car. You could have easily, easily sold a handful of pieces off of it to recoup all of your $300 investment and had a lot of good pieces to use on your other car, holding out for $100 was foolish.

And this green one is worth all of $500, all day long. The fact that you paid $150 for your first one is meaningless when it comes to pricing these parts cars, what you paid for one doesn't affect the value of the next one.

Buy it and sell off what you don't need, you'll probably double your money and have all the good parts for free. I've parted out several cars for projects of my own, keeping whatever I need and selling the rest, and I have NEVER lost out, especially at $500.

Take 4 $100 bills and show him. Tell him that's all you can come up with and see if he bites. If not tell him you can borrow the other $100 and you'll be right back. Don't be gone long or you'll be right where you were on the other one. Can't hurt and you "might" save a hundred.

No can`t do that. this guy I have heard stories about and I heard he not one for wheeling and dealing. If i want it I pay $500 for it. If I offer him $400 for it I would be lucky to get it for $600. He has a few car on his land that won`t go anywhere but into the ground.
