Is it life mimics art, or vice versa? Gary

  5. I was thinking that it needed some oversimplified chrome box covers over the carbs and other engine parts so that it looks like a 1:1 version of the actual model... just scale up the parts with giant parting lines on 'em.:D

I built the kit back then and have a NOS one stashed...it was not just a neat model, it taught a lot about the proportions and stance that made this one look good.
I agree on the display...this thing NEEDS a 25X...oops, it's Monogram, make the 24X... tube of Testor's glue and a gigantic Testor's paint bottle sitting next to it.

Whoa...it just ocurred to me...if exactly duplicated, it could be one of the first hybrid rods! Isn't the kit rear platform recessed for an electric motor with battery pack in bed??

Meatball...the Widow you show is a well known old rod which appeared in magazines in two guises with different owners...freshly restored. I'm sure Monogram knew of it and borrowed freely.
Other BW is a Monogram kit from maybe 1959...I have never seen in my magazine collection a prototype car, and I have asked about that on the HAMB several times. I would bet there was an actual prototype, likely not painted like the model.
The companion car in the Monogram line was the Green Hornet, a Model T Roadster cl*** drag car based closely on a real HRM cover car.

Incredibly faithful to the original! Speaking as someone who's STILL a modeler at age 56 (How the hell did that happen?) and built the kit at least four times since I was twelve, I love the concept behind this project and the execution is just breathtaking! Congrats to the guys at Hollywood Hot Rods on a fantastic job!

Maybe they oughta do a similarly faithful take on the "Blue Beetle"!

Here's my recent take on the Black Widow, it's a "Wild Canary" though since there're already a few nice resto-builds in black!

The only thing that would make that any sillier would be a bunch of dudes with Sawzalls cutting those pieces out instead of a giant Xacto knife...

Of course I built the model too, and Big T too-and they never left my brain until I saw my T for sale on a car lot - 6 years ago - I always wonder if the model was ever built and when I heard about this - well I just couldn't be happier - please more pics - many thanks to the people behind the build.

Thank you guys for all the great responses...I really appreciate it!!! We are in the middle of the last minute thrash, and all that positive re-inforcement really helps the morale! Thank you.

The owner was especially excited that Von Franco & Moriarity responded to the post!

The display is going to be a little different then tubes of glue & paint brushes... the owner had a 1:1 version of the counter top display that Monogram gave to the toy stores built. Also there is an exploded view of the car and all the parts in the original instructions that will be 1:1, as well as the box top. Should be really cool since the toy store display scales out to about 7ft tall! I have yet to see everything together.

    AMBR...SHHMM-AMBR, its about the HAMBR!
