Hey everyone! Just a quick update. Wayne is very close to having my dad's 1940 Ford Convertible done! He's waiting on the hood, fender skirts, and a few other parts to have the paintwork completed. I don't have any new pictures of it...BUT you might enjoy these pictures I took recently at Floyd Garrett's Musclecar Museum in Pigeon Forge, TN. 1940 Ford Mercury Convertible called "Afterglow". This car was built between 1993-2003 to be similar to the Jimmy Summers custom built in the mid-40's. ffice:eek:ffice" />

Merry Christmas Everyone!! I went by to see Mr. O'Neal this afternoon and got to see my dad's 1940 Ford Convertible custom. The restoration is VERY close to being complete...just some minor details are left...like buffing the paint on the fender skirts, polishing the hubcaps, and some detail work on the paint. Mr. O'Neal and everyone else who has worked on this great car have done a FANTASTIC job!! The car is VERY close to the way it looked in 1953. My dad would be so proud. I'm very thankful for Mr. O'Neal's hard work and dedication to restore it back. I can't tell you how it feels to be able to see this great car in person instead of looking at 60 year old restored black and white photos. Enjoy the pictures!!

True craftsmanship in this resto. Stunning ride and great to see this ride back on the road. The more kustoms we have out there the better.

Very nice. It appears that the restoration is every bit as nice as the car deserves.

I'd love to see a side view of the car out in the daylight. If you visit Mr. O'Neal again and he's willing to take it out of the garage, please show us one more.

    Thanks!

UPDATE!! Wayne O'Neal has COMPLETED the restoration of my dad's 1940 Ford Convertible!! Today I took my mom and my uncle to reunite them with this great custom 60 years after it was originally completed in 1953!! It's kinda like seeing the Grand Canyon...you see it, but it's hard to believe it!! Wayne has done a remarkable job!! I can't thank him enough for his hard work and dedication...along with all of the other men who provided their efforts too. For those of you near Kingsport, TN... come on out on Friday, May 24th for the SuperCruise at Kingsport Towne Center to see this great car!! Wayne will also bring it to the Wilderness Road Rod Run on Saturday, May 25th on Main and Broad Streets in Kingsport. Here's some pictures:

Here's a few more pictures. Below is my dad's original journal documenting the build of this custom between 1951 and 1953.

Looks really nice. The restoration looks really great and wonderful to see another original custom back on the road again.

And as the photos show brings back a lot of memories to the people who knew it from way back.

    Thanks for keeping us updated.
