I sectioned mine 2.5 inches to match proportions to the chop...fenders mounted in the same place and then took 2.5" outta the hood...

Call me a dumbass but I still dont see how your gonna pull it off without sectioning the hood....(enlighten me...seriously I aint bein smart...I wanna know)

Personally on my truck I thought 3 inches would have been too much...plus sectioning the hood any more than I did woulda been even more of a bear than it already was...

Hood was just cut free and set down to visualize it(I dont have any pics of the finished product as of yet...stay tuned for an update on the build...) I ended up pulling the nose forward to keep the stock form of the bull nose....I'm not a big fan of the swept back hoods...I'll have to fill the rear of the hood to the cowl but it'll get there.

Okay lol Ill do a step by step in paint on what I am doing.

    #1 shows where Im cutting.
The vertical cut in the rocker allows me to slide the floor and bottom of the cab up and the fenders stat in the same spot because the fire stays the same height.I cut the bottom off the front of cowl where I split it.I did this because it was rusted out and thats where the fender bolts to so ill have to move it up and forward just a little bit. The fenders will have 4 inches taken out of them and the bottoms only and Ill move to bulge area up buy cutting it and making it wider to fit its new position on the fender.

#2 Shows the metal cut out.

#3 Is everything brought up and lengthened.

Its not lowered because its only paint Im using.

Russ Meeks did one for Cedric about 20 years ago. Chopped and sectioned, rolled pans, frenched and hooded quad headlights, even had a dual quad 409 in it for a little while. Done in the style of the Dream Truck (one of Russ's favorite all time customs). Would be worth your time to try to contact him and see if he's willing to share construction info and/or pictures. His shop number is 503-659-4278.

Now that I think about it, I think NONAME (see posts above) posted a pic or two of it here on the HAMB not too long ago. Maybe he'd be willing to post some more.

I hated to sound so negative in the last post (not intended) and I should have mentioned that your way is deffinatly thinkin outside of the box.....I'll give ya mad props for that....

As far as the running boards. (I aint gonna do it to mine so I can share an Idea I had for mine) How bout you reduce the width of the running board top surface area (only have two ribs instead of the 5) but keep the sweeps into the front and rear fenders...kinda a vertical section or a "nerf board" so to speak (you following me?)
WOuld prob look pretty sweet on yours....

I didnt take it like that I knew what you where meaning. I was told this way to section it by a guy that had talked to Doug Thompson about sectioning one of the cars he did. So its not my idea I just did it lol.

I kind of thought about doing some thing similar kinda like on Roy's truck but use round tubing. Im gonna play around with the two ideas and see what I can come up with.

does anyone have pictures of the Russ Meeks truck?

  10. I have them (lost some where) his is completely different build. he sectioned the hood and raised the fenders on the cowl left the doors and cab full the chopped the top. finished truck looks about like mine but has full interior room. I'll do a search. the big difference the 57 chev wrap around backglass and the dreamtruck front clip. I'm going over to Russ's shop monday to do some work on a chopped 55 crown vic he's building for Lona. I'll take lots of photo's

I went with a light 2.5" on my 48. I want it to be a head scratcher to all the other people.

  19. As I read this thread from page one, I thought what if you cut around the back of the cab where dane marked out, did the whole inner door structure cutting and outer skin fitting to the inner and chopping off the bottomand then cut the windshield posts down the amount that the sectioning is going to be so then you have a sectionand chop all in one with keeping the hood the stock size without sectioning? Just an idea.
