I usually don't care much for sectioned cars but this 51 Chevy coupe has just the right amount of metal removed from it's midsection. Maybe it's because it's a Chevy and not a flat sided Ford that makes the difference. Most of the 49-51 sectioned Fords seem to look top heavy. What do you think?
I think it looks pretty sharp, but I've always liked the looks of these with metal removed from the roof. I think the proportions are ALMOST there ... I'd personally like to see a couple inches taken out of the top. Maybe I'l photochop it to find out if I'm ********ting myself or not. Thanks for the pics.
I was going to reference the similarity to a VW, but I just didn't want to put the poisonous thought in my head that my 50 could look kind of like a bug with a little sectioning. Say it aint so!
Why don't you tell us how you really feel, Ant? ROFL!! he's absolutely right though, that thing needs to be crushed instantly
What makes the roof look too tall is the fact that the front window is cut down. The car is a disaster and if Ryan sees this he may close the thread.
A sectioned but not chopped Chevy CAN look very good. I dont know what to say about the pictured car because the photo angles don't show it's section well and the Orange and flame paint job scream Hotrod, not Custom, and then there's the Trans AM scoops and lack of chrome... Does anyone have a different, actually Custom Car example?
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69552 There's a whole thread on some sectioned Mercs.
well lets see... the first thing you do is remove thet **** ugly mirror.. and I'm sure there is an equally ugly one on the other side. then you fill in the gay trans am scoop on the side. chrome the grille and bumpers. paint it a good color. without even seeing it I can almost garantee you will have 300 dollars worth of bolt on billet junk to sell on ebay, and more than likely the complete interior and dash will need to be reworked. not sure where people are coming up with the windshield being changed... looks stock height to me. just one peice and no trim. once you get past the bad taste the proportions aren't to bad
Aww Hell!! Now you made me go back and realy look at that thing. My eyes, my poor eyes!! I never noticed the vents and I was happy then.........
..... if I were building a car for someone and they brought by those mirrors and trans am scoops to put on it I would refuse.
i think it needs a big spoiler like a superbird some chrome side pipes and an L88 hood scoop and possibly a huge rake with some fat *** tires on the rear...
Actually, since it's kind of a "sporty custom" it could benefit from opening the rear wheel opening to the same shape as the front and so there is the same amount of fender "body" left above it that there is left above the wheel opening on the front fender. I don't really mind the idea of air outlets in the fenders, just not any "bolt-on" production car ones. If you're going to scoop it, do it the cl***y way Ferarri did it, not Pontiac. Hotrods have Flames and big & littles and rakes, Customs sit level or tail dragging and have five matching wheels and tires with one displayed in the fully upholstered trunk along with the pinstriped Water, Oil and Gas cans and chrome jack, cross lug wrench and tools display.
i saw one of these in the goodguys gezzette couple months ago. sectioned, radiused wheel wells, canted quads, www with 57 corvette hubcaps. iny one have a good pic of that one it looks really good
The front wheelwells should come down a little and the front track width is a bit wide. a little off the top and a paint job, It's almost there.
Does anyone have any photos of the sectioned '54 that Gene Winfield painted? They built it on Monster Garage, but it turned out looking really nice. They chopped the top of course, and it was a sweet custom. Don't pretend you didn't see that episode, you know you did.
Google: Valley Customs Jack Stewart Polynesian There's what is probably a good one here http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_..._cars/valley_customs-1/jack_stewarts_polyn-3/ but my computer doesn't support ****ti photos, so I can't see any of the picks. ****ti ****s. ETA: Rikster PM'd me and educated me about Fokti and IE being at odds or in a feud with each other but I found I can get the pictures fine on Netscape. Thanks Rikster!
If you really wanna know how Ant feels go look at his bulletin on myspace. I don't think the above Chevy's beyond redemption, paint 'n' rolling stock could make it look less 1990s.
Man, I sure like that wagon. And I sure will be glad when that style of wheel becomes a hose reel for the garden hose. A set of wide whites and hubcaps would do that car some good.
Hey, One could always hope that it's heavily insured and suffers the same fate as Ryan's cardboard. S****ey Devils C.C.
The polynesian is a great sectioned olds, and the shoebox valley did looks pretty good too me, i dunno some sectioned cars have weird proportions but i love the polynesian
I like sectioned cars. Shoebox Fords can make nice sectioned customs if done right. Here are two from different eras. The first is Ron Dunns 50 Ford built by Valley Customs and the second is built by the elder Foose. Both are BEAUTIFUL examples of sectioned customs. My favorite sectioned custom is probably My Blue Heaven, definitely my favorite 59 Ford. (anybody got a pic? I can't find one.)
I helped rip the upolstery out of that 59 while in high school in Portland. Thats what $2500 and a brand new Ford would get you in 1959!...OLDBEET
Thanks Rik! You never cease to amaze me with the photos you have. That is the most beautiful 59 Ford ever. "I helped rip the upolstery out of that 59 while in high school in Portland. Thats what $2500 and a brand new Ford would get you in 1959!...OLDBEET" You knew the original owner? Did you ever cruise in that car? Man, I bet you had to beat the girls off with sticks huh?
Here is a few pictures of a friend of mines ford .He bought that way and repainted it.It was sectioned in 1958,was in a few magazines. He sold it at the Turkey Run last year.
The owner was just a few years older than I. Car was a grad gift from his dad. Didn't know him, just hung out at the body shop. They painted the dash and sills on a 51 Ford I had. Candy red and faded gold......OLDBEET
