    Sectioning is taking some metal out of the parallel length of the car to make it lower. Nosing is removing the hood ornaments and chrome, decking is doing the same to the trunk

  3. In a nutshell, this is sectioning. Like chopping a top, but through the width of the body, which requires a ton of work, obviously.

    This is a rather famous photo: Jack Stewart's '50 Olds, aka the Polynesian, at Valley Custom.

  4. Below, in finished form, is the car shown being cut apart in the photo above: Jack Stewart's Polynesian, by Valley Custom.

    And just below that is the stock production Oldsmobile Holiday Coupe for comparison, to illustrate what sectioning does to the overall look. The Polynesian is still in existence today.

    I've always loved that in-progress photo. Shows just how crazy a section job is to pull off.

  6. This car below is, probably, the most famous sectioned car in the UK;

    Sectioning works well on slab sided cars on some others it looks odd to me,,case in point is the '35 Hilman seen in the previous post. HRP

    This is a 1954 Wagon being sectioned,,

    Go on youtube and look up "monster garage old school chevy" they chop and section a chevy... probally the best episode of that show ever.

  10. The colour pictures are recent and I believe it is in Sweden. Lovely car - no odd proportions when seen in the metal.

  11. Me, too. I also enjoy how the sectioning is not horizontal -- it follows the crown of the panels down the side of the car. Those guys knew what they were doing with sheet metal back then.

    Google:

    Sectioning removes a horizontal section from the body of a car, lowering the top half onto the bottom half, and welding the result back together. The purpose is to reduce the overall height of the bodywork of the car. Like a roof chop, it also has the advantage of reducing a car's frontal area and reducing wind resistance. This sort of bodywork is popular on minitrucks, race cars, kustoms, and leadsleds.
