HHHMMMM, this is getting a bit eerie! I could tell you about the time half the hot rodders in Aberdeen Washington showed up to help do the exact same thing at a then new friends shop in town.(Shot a couple picts of the shop and whats inside). You found basically the same fix I did! That wasn't a good year for clutch and hydraulics for me. Earlier that summer, I was pulling out of a underground parking garage in China town (Frisco) with my then brand new girlfriend who was crazy enough to take this ride with me,(Phoenix to Seattle) and my expensive extra heavy Centerforce clutch decided it was no longer happy. From there to my buddies house in Ilwaco, Wa, my first order of the day everyday was to spin weld the clutch together, and drive the rest of the day with no clutch! She never had any idea there was a problem!

    Brian,

I spotted you on I-84 heading south in Nampa ID yesterday.

I have been following your thread for a week and seeing your car cruising down the freeway was really neat.

Not too many bare metal Hemi Coupes driving down the road.

What an adventure, Brian. Awesome. Glad to hear the car (and humanity) are working in your favor. See you at the salt...

  7. I too have changed my background several times as your trip progressed but when you got a photo with The Dalles Dam and your coupe? Had to use it as my permanent screen saver. I was born and raised in The Dalles and wish I could talk my little wifey into moving there with me...she's anchored here in the midwest tho..
Oh, and the shot taken from the vantage point in Warshington? I think I have the same shot taken back in 1971 with the camera pointing the opposite direction. Back when I had hair!
Great coverage of a great road trip...I LOVE road trips in a hotrod..try to take one every year or 2....I also loved couer'd alane and came back to sepnd 2 days hangin around town and cruising the lake road in my old sedan delivery one year...met a hot chick and...well, we had a great time. GO BRIAN!

  8. There are only about 4 hotrodders in all of Aberdeen, the real hotrodders are from Hoquiam. (I mis-spent a great deal of my youth ducking/running from the 3 Aberdeen police officers)

Driving a hemi powered hot rod across this great country.....

Have you ANY idea how many people have dreamed of this their whole lives, and how very, very few people will ever get the chance? Seriously, you are doing something millions dream of, so just remember that and do us all a great honour by having the time of your life. Don't be letting us down now.

    Man, I'm so jealous!!! :D

I've been sitting here at work all week while you circled all the way around me here in Idaho Falls. Hope to see that coupe when I get to the Salt on Sat. Come to think of it, I think that's the last place I saw you and the big guy. At the Bend in the Road party back in about 2003 or so.

Laughed when I saw the sign on the rock in that Columbia overlook shot. I first stopped there and pissed on that rock about 20 years ago on the way to SIR! Got to be a habit after crossing from Spokane every year.

Sign of the times when you need a 12 mm wrench to work on a Hot Rod part. I knew the world was in trouble the first time I needed a metric wrench on a stock Chevy...

That would be the right count then! I shouldn't say help as much as drink beer and quietly laugh at why this idiot would drive this dumb hot rod all the way from Phoenix! Great guys though, and Cliff threw his whole shop open to let me do this deal. Ron went through every possible master cylinder rebuild kit on the shelf to figure out what could and did work. Absolutely one of my best "Hot Rod over the road breakdown" stories!

How about a dedicated section of the HAMB for just Road Trips only so classic trips like this are not forgotten. I mean they are so cool and a lot of people might just add their road trips to it if it was made for it and not be forgotten.

This has inspired me to get off the couch and go for it. All in favour say aye!

I live next to the freeway in Boise and wondered what the hell woke the dogs up at 3am. Glad you made SL. Must have been a hard day’s drive. I hate that drive to Mountain Home also.

    Day 10

Today I took the relatively short drive over from Salt Lake City to Wendover. Once I got into town, I checked into the motel and relaxed for a bit.

Spent the afternoon cleaning up the car and applying Salt-Away. I really hope that stuff works.

Tonight I went over to The Nugget and hung out a bit. Saw some friends and met some new ones. The people that come to Speedweek are by and large some of the best people you'll ever meet.

So tomorrow I'm going to venture out on the salt. It looks to be pretty dry out there, so I'm going to take my chances.

How far have you driven so far? Best I've done is 2500 in two weeks in a T Bucket all round France & into Spain. Sounds like some of your states are like foreign countries too!!
