i had this kit and the screws supplied for the rocker arms were too short so when you screwed them in the valves stayed open, if you backed them off theyd (the screws) pop off. i dont know if it was suposed to turn over or not (i never read instructions) if not, i made it! i learned alot from it. fun times, i remember asking dad if they made speed parts for it...
Thanks for the answers guys. I'm going to start with the one from discoverthis.com and work up to something real. Scott
I had one of those Visible V-8s when I was a kid, had it almost done when my kid sister came running through the room and kicked the **** out of it....... Yea, my "block repair" was not worth a damn so this one found the trash can. Ended up getting another one that went together a little better. the starter never was worth a damn though, but the crank worked fine. The "gear reduction" starter did nor work right, the gears did not mesh in a functional manner. I later got a Visible 2.3 inline TURBO 4, not as cool as a V-8, but a BETTER engineered and just a better quality model by quite a bit. Removable con rod caps, made for a more realistic ***embly.
I actually have the SBC see thru engine that my dad built a year before I was born....over 40 years ago. It used to turn over with a D cell battery and the spark plugs would light up when it fired on each cylinder. The glue is all old and it needs some TLC...I have pics of it somewhere. Cant even find a decent model car anymore these days hhhmmmmm
Definitely use some veggie oil, spray some PAM or some other sort of uckumpucky on the friction surfaces and the turbo 4 will last a good while- i wish i could find a visible hemi that has the build quality of the turbo 4 unit.
I have one that's similar to the one pictured, battery powered, old. My dad purchased it from a friend of his' collection for my birthday one year after my folks split. We got about halfway through, stuff happened, I collected my bits and haven't really seen him since. I think most of it is in the box still in the attic. I know a few parts are missing, but I ought to dig it out, maybe somebody could use some of the parts. Great little kit....shame I didn't finish it, held onto it hoping we could do it together someday and eventually just resigned it to collecting dust.
I have several of the renwal/revell visible V8 kits for parts. If you get the urge to finish yours & need some parts, figure out what you need & I can probably hook you up. When it is finished, even if it does not "run" it still looks really cool on the shelf. your typical "conversation piece"
My brother once had (may still have it) a horizonal shaft Briggs with a side plate made of 1 inch or so thick Lexan and Plexi-glas, it had a area machined out of it for the crank bearing on that side....you could see the internals as it ran......I think they used it in a high school shop cl***.
