Ok, so here's the deal. Last month I decided to see if I was still burned out on the magazine business...so I kicked in a couple of stories to Dragzine.com just to see how it felt...and it felt good. I'm actually having some fun with it, and I think I might want to go a bit further and do it full time again. (I know, probably a mistake...but I do stuff like that.) So, what I'm looking for from you guys are some story ideas. Not looking for car features or anything you may have seen someplace else. I'm looking for original ideas that are linked somehow or another to the world of Drag Racing. Nothing is too far out or weird or obscure...I love that kind of stuff. I'm looking for the kind of stories that you would consider "must read" if you came across them. I'm going to stay out of the rest of this thread so that I don't influence it in any way, and just say Thanks in advance. Tony
I'll byte I enjoy the TECHNICAL MINUTIA of the modern nitro racers. Foremost on this would be a DISSECTION of the modern fuel system - with respect to the fuel delivery circuits, bypass valves, barrel vales, air timers, clutch timers. To this day, I wouldn't know what a pneumatic timer was if it came up and bit me in the ass. Schematic diagrams of these circuits would be nice. Hell, pics of a disassembled barrel valve would be useful. How can they make carbon fiber stuff that has the functionality of cast aluminum? (Injectors and valve covers, for example.) Re-examine all the cool stuff that was instantly outlawed before it got raced - like 2 speed blowers, enclosed front wheels on dragsters. My favorite subject - why no mono-struts in TF to this day? Why don't they go back to MILD STEEL frames, instead of chrome moly - which has a lot of fatigue liabilities. Chrome moly has a great strength to weight ratio, but it's brittle and fatigues quickly. The cars are mandated to be really heavy these days. The 50 to 100 pound penalty of mild steel is no longer an objection, as the cars are 1,000 pounds heavier than they could be. What happened to John the indian Morgans bridgeport built billit block? What kind of facility makes forged blocks? What is involved in the making of such products? Where are Tim Grose and Joe Schubeck at with their cool engine programs? Where did all the 2:80 ring gear sets go when NHRA outlawed them? How much NHRA outlawed stuff should be rexamined a "maybe not that bad after all" Why don't the lower the dispalcement as a solution to the blown up engine problems? (I know the experts object. other than obsoleting their entire nitro knowledge base, just how expensive would it end up being? How are nitro suppliers and homeland security getting along these days? -90% jimmy
The side by side accelleration rates and distances of a modern pro stocker on a modern prepped strip vs a 1965 era top fuel car racing on the surface of it's era. Would the P/S lead most of the way with a big top end move by the dragster? Would the lead change during the race? -90% Jimmy
