My current project is to a point where I need to be thinking about the front axle. I'm wanting a straight front axle, but it will be under a Flat Caddie, long on iron. Aside from the suspension, is there an issue with the axle? Are some axles that are more suitable for this weight than others? I have one from a late 30's ford PU. It has leaf-spring saddles cast into the axle, but has no brakes. I have another that has transverse springs in front of the axle, that has provisions for brakes. Are either of these appropriate for that much weight? Your experienced options please... Rusty.
I doubt a flat caddie is any heavier than a 392 with a huffer, and don't have issues with any ford axles
