I didn't see this info in the "sticky" so I thought I would offer it.

If you want to add self-adjusters to your 11-inch drum brakes during your next brake job, Advance Auto stocks them (in the stores) for around $12 a wheel. Wearever part number is 2544 and 2545.

If you need an application, make them look up a '65 Galaxie.

For the self-adjuster friendly lower spring you will have to purchase a drum brake spring kit for each axle (I bought one for an 80s F-150, Wearever part number 7071, because they also had those in stock and the kits were $10 a piece). The lower spring used to be available individually, but no longer is. I crossrefrenced the Galaxie with the F150 in an old paper catalog to make sure they both used the same spring.

Thanks, glad you posted this. Self adjusters are in my near future on my 56 wagon.

Wagon brakes are different. If I can find the part numbers I used I'll post them for you.

I would appreciate it if possible. I knew wagons used the Dana rear, but thought the brakes would be the same from backing plates out.

They are bigger. At least on the back. Maybe Jeff will chime in but I think I used 66 F100 front hardware and adjusting hardware on the back. The shoes were also F100. As for the fronts I put in Versailles spindles and disc brakes so I'm no help there.

If you look up your shoes on www.rockauto.com you can click on the part number and it will tell you what later Ford products shared the same shoes 1965 and later had self adjusting then you look up the self adjusters for the later car and also the brake hardware kits.;) Autozone or O'Reillys can cross over the part numbers so you don't get whacked for rockauto's shipping charges.

Thanks for all the info, everyone. I'm a little ways off from this, but I will get the parts# and pricing . I haven't done much parts replacement research into the rear or the brakes yet, more pressing issues at hand, but I always gather the info for the future. I was thinking my stock rear would be strong enough for a mild 292 rebuild, but recently decided to go with a stroker motor( details to be finalized) so depending what the dyno says, I may be switching that out , and get the adjusters with it. Things are constantly changing on this build.

I almost added them to my '59 but the adjuster slot was closed up on the backing plates. So I went with fresh manual adjusters. I just give them a little adjustment when I'm under the car for something else and I think of it.
