Links to a couple of the self-canceling flashers. Ouch, over a hundred bucks!

Here's instructions I found on one of the motorcycle sites for making a nifty piezo beeper with about $5 worth of parts from Radio Shack:

I'm not sure how either of these will work when you put on the emergency flashers, but the old Signal Stat 900 has gotten the best of me more than I care to admit. This is going to be my weekend's project. If you don't want to fool around making it, he sells them on ebay for $25.

Splice the flasher up to your horn, you will never forget to turn it off. :p

I had an old bronco where the cancellation mechanism inside the column was trashed that I merely spliced in a buzzer from radio shack. That did the trick for me.

I have a Speedway pushbutton timed signal on a car,and its very reliableeasy to install, and doesnt show.I recommend it. The longer you hold the button the longer it flashes. Push both buttons and its emergency flashers.

Use a buzzer. I have. It's annoying as hell, and after you make your turn it's pleasurable as sex to have it off. Trust me. I used one in my Chevy pickup for years. (I took it our of a mid-eighties GM car.) Riders were annoyed as hell with . "What's that noise?" they would ask when I made a turn. There's a certain amount of masochism in it, that turns into sadism with riders. A perfectly good way to spend an afternoon when you're asked to give someone a ride and you really don't want to. I found myself driving in circles just to irritate them. Go for it. You'll wonder why you waited so long. And worries about the fuzz will disappear in a haze. Man, how can life get any better?

Turns out the NAPA "loud flasher" wasn't very loud and it was only a two terminal flasher. I couldn't use it or one of the chime flashers as the SignalStat 900 takes a three spade flasher to work the indicator. As has been mentioned several times in the thread, I ended up putting the Radio Shack piezo beeper #273-060 I purchased to use with the rectifier across the flasher power and light terminals. The only down side is that it beeps for the emergeny flasher too but I guess that isn't really a bad thing.

another fun option would be to acquire a couple hazard flashers and switches and wire one to each side of the car.
