this is all really cool. many thanks to those who posted.

so if your grandpa (or you if you are an old fart) had the dough to buy any 5 cars from these ads as well as a building to put them in for 45 years.

which would be worth more now. the cars or the building.

Good point, I think I should get in that time machine and punch my gramps twice. Once for not buying one of these Hot Rods and another for not buying land in San Diego or on Lake Norman in North Carolina!!!

I think that these ads have given me a great deal of inspiration as far as ideas for the cars that I have. I like seeing the cars that were not featured and the ideas that they had.

Hey, don't feel bad. I walked into a Fiat dealership in Monrovia, CA in 1972 that was also a dealer for Ferrari. There was a brand new 12 cylinder Ferrari Daytona in the showroom. It was $23,000. Too much for me, so I bought a new Dodge van..............

  10. Thanks for bumping this Jeff, I missed it the first time. It's neat that the same guy still owns this 34. I remember it from York, (that's my flamed 40 in the background!) but I don't remember seeing it the past couple of years.....

I figured there are people that haven't seen this thread since it started two years ago and people who also might have something to contribute. So Bttt!

An Update on Marty's 34 Ford:

1)We installed a "hybrid" T5 trans a few weeks ago. Trans has Chevy case, S10 tailshaft and shifter position and V8 Camaro gearset.

2)We just got back from Fatman Fabrications in NC.
They installed a new MustangII style front end to replace the '65 Corvair front end that Marty installed in 1965.
I'll post pictures in the next few days.

You would have had to be at the shop to have seen it.
We drove down on Sunday and they started working on Monday morning. They had it finished enough for an alignment and test drive at around Noon on Wednesday.
They REALLY thrashed on it to get it out that fast!

    Wow,

I wondered how long the term "streetrods" had been around sounds like the 1960"s

This one was a feature car in Hot Rod, even made the Annual. It resides in Nebraska, in the unrstored original condition as shown.

  19. Seeing some of these prices makes me want to shed a few tears,,but thinking back about my first car,,1932 Ford 5 window I bought at the ripe old age of 12 in 1962 for the price of 75 bucks is about in line for that time period. HRP

I did the exhaust on a 34 3w about 30 years ago that the owner bought from an ad in the back of Hotrod. It came out of Ohio. He still had the magazine. I thought that was cool.

The amazing part of this is that at that time we local yocals thought that the prices in Hotrod were inflated compared to local east coast cars. I remember a beautiful 49 Olds coupe in Hemmings 3 mos straight for 2500 bucks...too much money!:D

Longer than that. Henrey Gregor Felsen wrote his book "Street Rod" in 1953.

And he was from Iowa. So it wasn`t just a word being used from one part of the country.

It's ironic how most people on here hate "street rods" or the term "street rod". Back then it just meant "street car", non competition hot rod.

After reading that a couple years ago I try to use that term and make sure I emphasize the point of it being a street driven hot rod. Shakes it up a bit...

I somehow missed it... what an amazing bit of historical review. Who wouldn't have wanted a Lister, Allard or that Grand Sport convertible for what was probably the price of a good used car at that time. Not to mention the other hot rods and race cars. Gads! Gary
