Im in australia and have sent numerous emails of to sellers on here and only received one reply from about 5 cars ive enquired about. (cars was allready gone/sold) Im guessing they have the same gut feling as you that i might be a scammer and that i can understand.

to import into australia we need a clear ***le, and heaps of people have been burnt where a seller says he has one but its a icv or a writeoff or they only have a bill of sale, but think they can get a ***le easily after the sale (when in reality they cannot)

What has happened is guys have bought cars (20k plus) got them to the USA wharves and the exporter askes for the ***le and you havent got one, well you cant get it into australia and now you have to try and re-sell from the other side of the world.

So unfortuanetly, i have to see a copy of a clear ***le in your name before i will wire the cash, once you get the cash then you give me a bill of sale and the original ***le. Thats the way i beleive it should happen.

    cheers Julian

    Reefer is giving excellent advice.
Having been both a buyer and seller, a bank wire is safe. If you are concerned about handing out personal information its too late, the fact you are on the net and receiving bills in the mail puts you at just as much risk.

Talk to your bank about international wire transfers and how they are handled. The risk is really with the German buyer.

Would there be any harm to write "Photo Copy of Original" across the copy of the ***le?

When I recieved my last ***le, I color copied it for a back up. It came out so perfect that I could not tell the difference. The only flaw was the watermark was missing. It would easily fool anyone who did not know a watermark was missing. I wrote COPY over the face so I would know the difference.

A couple of posts above a guy mentioned a cashiers check from an international buyer...I would also never take an international cashiers check or any other form of money order....wiring money is the ONLY WAY to not get screwed. I sold a waterpump core to a guy in Canada a few years ago...got his business check, deposited it...waitied the amount of time the bank told me which I think was a week. When my bank told me it cleared I shipped the pump...2 months later the check came back that it bounced. Standard waiting periods and whatever do not apply when dealing internationally. I would sell to anyone international no problem...wiring the money only!

99.9% of the time checks are fine...but that .1% could cost you big time...

I have bought sevral cars from the Us, i usally use a Swede that has a shipping firm to get cash and pick it up, works best for me.
Paypal is some secureity for the abroad buyer but since its a fee for the seller you have to pay extra so the buyer get the right amount, i dont use Paypal since that fee gets bad if you buy a $30000 car and allmost no seller want to use paypal anyway.
If you buy a car its $8000 to get it home, so a cheaper bill of sale do allot in customs cause otherwise it gets $10000 or more.

So you believe Paypal dont wanna have anything to transfer money from a buyer to seller? They take approx. $8 of a $170 transaction from a buyer.

A lot of good advices here. Try to look it the other way around....what have you done to buy something from another country in alike amount?

Wire transfer is Bank Transfer, and safe. Whatever you dont need to deliver anything before your bank have do***ented the transfer to your account.
And about the ***le? Just make a copy, WITH letters on it (or stamped by authorities) That this is a not the original, but a copy. Than the ***le cant be used as an import/registration do***ent (at least not here in Norway) The guy just want to be shure that a clear ***le is on the vechile, and need it to import it.
By the way...i have bought a lot from US and Germany....and without disregard anyone, Germans are quite trustworthy, they normally stand by an agreement whatever. I we agreed on they keeping the part/vehicle till i can pick it up a couple of months later, they do, stored comfortably so no damages happends. On Us ones....easier to get in trouble...feels like its easy to agree to complete a buy, but to forefill the agreements.....well...

Paypal dont do anything for free, they live on transactions, only work when you buy a $15 thing on Ebay as abuyer, but i think that the seller lose $2 anyway even thou it a small sum. Dosent Ebay own Paypal?

I don't know why you would say that.

Less than 1 years ago I had never experienced the fear of selling my car international, thank goodness guys here offered there insight and my sell went smoothly.

95% of people living here in the good old USA have never had any reason to sell a big ticket item outside the United States and I applaud all the Hambers both Foreign and domestic that take a few minutes to help educate fellow members who are doing something like this for the first time. In Europe, a bank transfer is known as a wire order. It is perfectly legal, and very common. As someone else stated, the only info you are giving out is info that is printed on your personal check. The buyer is taking the majority of the risk with the transaction, but it is common to handle it this way with an overseas buyer. If I were the buyer, Paypal would be a no-go. Too many extra fees that are completely unnecessary.

I bought a 61 Buick from a now fellow carnut in Seattle a little over a year ago. It was the first time for me to buy a whole car overseas and everything worked out fair and well. Of course I was worried. But the seller was very helpful and emailed all the detail pics I had asked for and so I sent the money to his bank account. When he got the money he called my shipping co to pick the car, keys and ***le up at his garage, all the shipping was handled by one shipping agent.
And yes, paypal does charge for foreign payments, at least here in Europe.Plus the seller would have had too pay a fee also. So the standard bank transfer is the way to go in my eyes . Simple and safe.

Just find out if the person you´re dealing with is trustworthy, email him, call him to find it out. I was really lucky, because I bought a rustfree car with freshly rebuilt nailhead and ******, all brakes done for a price I couldn´t steal one for over here. All it took to p*** saftey inspection here in Germany was to mount a set of new tyres and hazard lights.Sight unseen. If I think of all the bondo and rust surprises I had with cars I did check out before buying this Buick was a haven sent gift.
