Wire transfer is the only way. I sold i car to Demark. It was about week to get the wire transfer because of different time zones. The hour the money was recived I was able to withdraw! And he did all the shipping.

ok to chip in here from a UK buyer point of view?
I bought my car from a guy in texas. we spoke on the phone a lot in the run up to the deal, me asking about the car and him coming up with all the right answers. after maybe the 5th or 6th call, he felt happy to let me have the details of his bank so i could arrange a wire transfer direct into his account. i in turn wa happy to pay the handling charges for this (is was bout £10 gbp i think, not much for peace of mind i thought)
Marc (the guy selling the car) rang me the following day to tell me that all the funds had cleared to his account, and that he was happy to release the car. i the arranged all the collection/shipping etc, and Marc helped out with a little local leg work. I sent over a few extra bucks to cover his time for that, and he in turn put a case of lone star in the trunk for me (the car came from fort worth!)
like has been said, communication, if he's that keen to buy and your keen to sell, drop him an e-mail with your mobile phone number and a suitable time for him to call you. then you can both start to get a feel for each other.

for what it's worth, it's a nrevous few weeks over here, waiting for the container with your new toy in it to arrive!!!

  3. This site will let you find his home town from his phone number - remember to delete the 0044 and replace it with a single 0. Let anyone of the UK HAMBers know which town and they can probably track him down.

I bought my 32 from a very nice guy in Washington State.
I had a couple of phone calls with him. He gave me his bank details. I sent a small sum over as a test. It arrived safely. I sent the rest in two batches so it was not too big an amount in one go. (Avoiding money laundering alerts??). He dropped it at the shippers, they shipped it to the UK. Job done, everyone happy all round.
My friend bought a different car from the USA. The seller would not give out his bank details, (his wife had been the victim of some sort of fraud). My friend had to pay for an international money order, and pay a lot to post it to the USA. It went missing. He then had to pay for another order, and the postage again. This time it all went through ok, and the car eventually found it's way here.
In a nutshell, electronic is easy. But requires trust. A couple of phone calls should be enough to establish that trust.

I sold a coupe recently to a gentleman in Germany. He knew exactly what to do (he apparently does this all the time). Bank wire transfer was painless - his bank called my bank....that's the way to do it. Car went nowhere until the money hit my account - I let it sit for 24hrs (mostly the bank did that), then transferred it into my "Hooters tips and miscellaneous stuff" account and allowed his shipper to come pick up the car - get the banks involved - they are the experts - we are the plebes.

In your case, both of your were real people and neither was trying to con the other. Any deal can be sketchy, even to someone down the street. But international deals are harder because the jurisdictional differences and lack of face-to-face can make it easier for someone to pull a con.

LOL go figure. I hope this guy turns out to be legit, he sounds like fun. 4 weeks is more than enough but the time doesn't matter as much as your bank manager uncategorically stating that the funds really exist.

I've done 3 overseas car sales 2 in Europe and 1 in Japan. I have used wire transfers for all three with no problems. The buyer in each instance had a broker we worked thru and they arranged the transportation. All 3 transactions went smooth with no major hitchs. In each instance I furnished a clear title and a notrized bill of sale for the paperwork.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use paypal. I thought I sold a motorcycle to a guy in Spain, but because of them I ended up paying him to take it. If you want the whole story, pm me.

I'm originally from the UK and always wired money across. Its easy and quick. The guy's back home now use me for stuff that sellers will not ship out of the country or want payment drawn on a US bank. Also means if they see a car here in the Houston area I can always take a look at it first to make sure it is as described.

The export companies tie them down inside containers, usually 2 cars in each container. No crating....

I sold my stang to a guy in OZ.
the deposit went into paypal. Then the rest was in cash when I delivered the car to the shipper in Long Beach.
Worked pretty easy for me and the buyer.
