I picked up a 1970's sun electrical water temp gauge and oil pressure gauge. NOS. Of course they have no electrical units. Any idea what current sending units cross over for use on them? Thanks.
George, Looks like you and I have the same problem. I posted the same question earlier today. 4 hrs later and no reply yet. If you find an answer to your problem, please respond to me and I will do the same for you. By the way do you know if these gauges run full 12 volts or are they reduced to a lower voltage?
The big gorilla in aftermarket Gauges has always been Stewart Warner. So most other gauges use the same value resistance in the sending units. But, a big but, most of them made gauges that would work with the stock OE sending units, which were different that the industry standard. So, you are going to have to track part numbers to see what the original application was. If you can't find a part number, you can use a Potentiometer to check the resistance needed to make it read properly, and use that to match up a sender. you have to check at both ends of the scale to find the correct range, and even then at points in between, it may be slightly inaccurate.
I went through this a while back, keep an eye on Ebay, A year ago or so there was a guy selling the senders for Sun temp gauges for $200.!!! I ended up paying like $60. Very cool gauges though!
hi fellas, my very first post. I usually sell on Ebay. I have working senders for the Sun 2 5/8" gauges
