I bought a 52 Olds steering column / steering box. Don't need the steering box, only the column. I can't seem to get the steering box separated from the column. Is there a trick to this? Looking around the column I can't see anything holding it.

If it is like some of the chevys, the bolt that holds the steering wheel on holds it together. The shaft might run out of the box all the way up to the wheel.Take the steering wheel off and see if that helps...

  4. Yep, if it's a manual box they're a one piece unit through roughly '57.

Well that ****s! Guess it's time to get the chop saw fired up...

  6. Or just go get a later GM column, the steering wheels will interchange.

Won't the column be useless if it's cut up? It's an ***embled unit with the gearbox as mentioned.

no all you rally need to ad is a busshing at the bottom and shorten th jacket so you have a stub to spline or dd

  10. Pretty much any 58-66 GM column would do the job, by then they all have a rag joint that mounts on a splined end at the bottom. Might have to play to get the horn contact lined up is all.

You'll need the bottom of another column if your trying to use a manual gearbox/column. Power steering columns are seperate from the gearbox.

I have a power steering box that's bolted to the front of the frame. I just need to attach the bottom of the steering column to the existing power steering box shaft with some kind of steering shaft joint. That's the theory from looking at it anyway :D
