Technical ***September 2024 Banger Meet Thread - First BER Month ***

  1. I wish I would have seen your Post when you posted it the other day.

    Well I guess I will shoot for next year since I am pretty sure my '19 Hupmobile on the model A chassis will be done-ish by then. This model A banger stuff is a lot more fun then I would have ever thought when I was a kid.

  2. That curve is because the car went so fast it pulled the axle back.
    Being serious how does that happen. You would have to bend one side hitting a curb or parked car and then still drive the car and do the exact same thing to the other side.

  3. It's been towed, or more likely winched to a trailer in the middle of the beam.
     
  4. This will be a dumb questions but the only place I can see that I can add oil is this little cap here by the oil dipstick..
    It's a 32 model b engine..

    ARA -At first I thought it was all the hard landings from the wheelies ...
    @hotrodfil -I think you're right, it even pushes out to the front a little. Fortunately the previous owner replaced everything on it before I bought it bearings,brakes, tierods, kingpins etc... All that transfers over to a dropped axle I've been pondering which project to use on.

  6. That's it. Looks like the T water pump interferes with the original fill tube so that was their fix.

    Thats the original oil fill location, male sure that oil cap is capable of ventilation, if it it sealed your engine will push oil out of every orifice it can, you may have problems with oil coming out of that filler setup with it being so short

  10. Anyone have a recommendation on a throttle pedal setup for a crossflow head (carbs on driver's side)? I don't want to use a cable, or something billet... I want a typical mechanical linkage. All of the swing-style pedals I can find seem to be made for cables, and I can't get my head around how to make one work with rods.

    I think the old Ford spoon pedals will have too much offset towards the passenger side to work correctly?

    Even just seeing photos of cars with this type of setup would be helpful.

    The Aussie RHD A's have the carbs on the drivers side on a stock pedal, maybe something like that could be utilized? Will see if I can dig up a photo? Otherwise I'll grab a pic of my car when I can get a chance

  14. Took me minute to orient myself. Of course "Drivers side" is the US passenger side. The header pipes running towards the radiator threw me for a bit.

    Yes those pipes loop forward to miss the steering box.

  19. That is probably the most logical answer now that being said that car must have been chained down or something, 30s and 40s Fords aren't real heavy it would have to be one heck of a mud hole to yank an axle into a U shape.

  20. On the Winfields, I had stumbling issues but once I got the floats set where the carbs were happy they work well. That took some time plus research.

  21. Burning the late night whatever it’s called? Got the engine wired up, hoping to fire it off tomorrow! No spark at the plugs so I’ll have to check out the points.

    Now to mate these two Kong pieces together…

  22. I need information for Carb tuning a banger. I am thinking of getting a wideband set up, but I don't know what to do with the data even if I get it. Mine is a simple set up with a mild cam and dual 81's. It runs and is drivable, but is not great, it bogs at bottom of shift to 2nd or 3rd. I know back in the day they didn't have all this technology. What was the guidence on setting up a dual 81 or similar set up?

    I went with a AFR gage kit similar to this one on my T;

    The gage provides a real time feedback with no data processing required. Simply watch the gage under regular driving and adjust as necessary. I wired mine in with alligator clips and tucked the gage in the corner of the seat cushion for an authentically temporary feel. Found that my Akron-Hed equipped T engine likes about 12-12.5:1 ratio, any closer to the ideal 14.1 and it pops and sputters sumpin fierce!

    I bought one of those AEM gauges to tune my 31. Gauge fried immediately, got a replacement it also acted up. RF interference from the stock ignition was the cause. I went with modern cap and suppression wires to make the F/A gauge work.
