Partly because I'm biased, but mostly because I hear it alot from kids, I think an Amphicar would be a perfect character addition. They already have a cartoonish look about them, they have a "happy face" and think about the story line with a car that can swim. C'mon, is this not a happy face? They just make everybody smile, especially kids and the older crowd who remember them! Even before people know what it is, they smile.
Yellow rr, this sounds a lot like what we experienced summer before last. The ex and I had her 64 Chevy II wagon at a local cruise-in and when we p***ed by her wagon one time, there was a young autistic girl standing at the front of the car with her grandparents. She was pointing and talking about how much she liked the car. When we got to the car, I asked her if she would like to sit in it and with a huge smile she nodded her head enthusiastically. While she was sitting in the p***enger seat, I asked her grandparents if if would be ok for her to go on a short ride around the parking lot. They were thrilled by the offer and the ex took her on a short cruise up and down a couple isles of cars. When they got back, her smile was unbelievable and her grandparents both had tears in their eyes and couldn't thank us enough. I can't explain how that made me feel. It effected me more that I had initially thought. I am currently working with some local hot rodders to try and put together a group of people who are willing to help brighten these childrens lives a little by doing this kind of thing for local childrens charities.
My 3 year old calls him self speed now from watching that movie almost daily. He rolls through the house on his little car pitching it sideways on the turns yelling, "Mac, where are you Mac?" We are looking forward to a sequel.
Fixies have brakes if you've got the legs and knees. There's no freewheel on the rear - just constant motion. If the wheels are turning, so are the cranks. You've got to resist the turning with you legs, or throw yourself out over the bars and skid the thing to stop it. My old GF was 5' 10" and had one - I'm 5' 4" and rode it once - not sure if I can have kids now - (think short inseam. ) Granted I don't see eye to eye with the people that ride them most of the time, but I sorta like anything with wheels and build a lot of bikes (cruisers of course.) Oh yeah, CARS was a pretty good flick guess I got a little OT.
Cars was a great movie. I can't wait for the next one. I like to watch the little Disney Shorts that they play during the commercial breaks on Disney Channel. And I ride my BMX bike with out breaks and one gear. Breaks are for people with poor planning skills.
LilT has all the characters as PEZ dispensers, he uses them like puppets and acts out scenes and races.......3 year old.
Well hopefully the sequel doesn't have Lightning McQueen winning 2/3rds of all the races or 4 championships in a row. That would just be a waste of 2 hours in a Sunday matinee.
As well, well-known Car Artist extraordinaire, Dave Deal, is no longer with us, and he was in on the original movie.
I liked that movie… As well as Doc's voice… The voice of Fillmore, George Carlin is also gone, as is Dave Deal who did allot of conceptual work on that first film.
(this has probably been posted already but...) I read that the engine noises for the Hudson hornet were recorded from the actual car!
Cars is in heavy rotation with the kids. I'm a big fan. If you watch anything too much though you can't help but study it, deconstruct it, then make hyperbolic observations. Like Lizzy is Mater's mom from her marriage with Stanley. But Stanley couldn't handle having children and left a long time ago. And Sarge is the hippy van Filmore's dad. Sarge was in southeast Asia while Filmore was home slinging speed to Ramone between war rallies. Guido and Luigi are gay. And they are ALL lazy. You expect me to believe that no one else in town could pull Bessie? Red, Doc, the sheriff, Mater, and Ramone were all capable but chose to let there road look like **** even before Lightening McQueen tore it up. And that is all incongruous with their stated desire to attract customers. It's really all superficial. Sally is the only one with her **** together with her Cozy Cone Motel. She put a lot of heart into her business. It's inspirational. I'm even thinking about doing some traffic cone work bench lights in my garage. Too bad the rest of the town is going to drag her dreams down. But that is what you get when you are idealistic.
lol. here is a video, kinda lame concept but mater sounds kinda cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pdeWiFlG9o
Great, now i'm going to have to buy 100 more of them lil cars for my grandkids. Its good, i can buy me somemore diecast also while im out.
I know of a certain 29 year old who recently was recovering from knee surgery at his parents house and watched it the other night with his 63 year old dad... Growing up is for ****ers.
