Amen brother, I didn't do what you did, but there is something to be said about having everything paid off. I have one more year of payments on my 9 acres of ground and a 40 x 60 shop that I live in. Other than that nothing but the monthly bills. I don't have as much as others, but mine is pretty much paid for.

It sounds as if you didn't get enough money from your house to retire. Were it me, I'd buy the Avanti...if that's your all time favorite and invest the rest in real estate. You can avoid a lot of Capital Gains taxes that way and at the least know that have a stable place to live. Again, were it me, I'd build a 30x40 garage with a nice apartment above it before buying any cars. I'd LOVE to put together a first class DIRT modified race team with two cars, all new equipment, etc and tackle the big boys in NY. But it isn't practical. Within a year I might be broke and be living in a 30' enclosed trailer with nothing.

HAHAHAHA.....That was my first car! '56 XK140, with the "E" type cylinder head and dual exhaust. I guess I'm a pretty lucky fellow. Never thought my first car would have been someone else's dream car.

I had that car (but white of course) when I was 18. Yes, I'd like another again.

Hey Guys, thanks for all the good investment advice, I'm covered in that Dept. rental prop. big garage etc...I want to talk about Hot Rods and Dream cars..like, a friend with experience, told me the other day not to go buy a crate Hemi, that it was better to build one (where am I going to get a block?) that it was his experience that the last few he knew of had to be broken down and rebuilt anyway..gotta have a Hemi, and I was looking at a company the other day that builds a new Ardun headed style flathead, anyone have any experience with that?....

    A 36 3 window or a 37 Lincoln Zephyr 3 window.

Of course, I blew my chance and bought all the crap to build a bubble top instead. ha ha ha

  14. I think I'd buy the following:
    '32 Ford Roadster
    '33 Ford Coupe
    '50 Ford F1
'50 Willys 4x4 Pickup (or Wagon)
    '56 Ford F100
    '57 Chevy Nomad
    '61 'Vette
    '65 Mustang

If you like Hemis buy a crate Hemi and then rebuild it. Buy the right tools to measure things. For me, if cost were no object, I think I'd rather go for an old Ford 427 SOHC. Rumor has it there will be enough parts reproduced soon to make a new one.

    And as a project, cost-no-object, I'd do a rear-engine Sidewinder-style '29 or 30 Model A (see Oct or Sept 1971 HRM) -- cmplete with 427 SOHC Ford.

i know where there is a 58 vette drag car that is complete and last raced in the mid 70's. has hilborn setup on a radical roller 327. 4-speed, olds 4:88 rear. comes with a wall of extra parts and engines and even an aluminum trailer. ran for years in the indiana area. 10 seconds on hard rubber slicks. the guy welded dumbbells standing vertical in the trunk so he could adjust launch by adding weights. it's just hiding in this dudes garage waiting for me to come up with the coin. there's no doubt what i'd do with your money... want to make a loan?

Ahhh yess..great minds run in the same ditch...nice selection..I always wanted to find a 65-66 fastback that was wrecked in the front and put on an old Cougar frontend and directional tailights and make Shelby Cougar...

Buy only one car and invest the rest, if you are lucky you will live a long time and need the money. Pissing away lots of money is very easy to do. If you buy a car invest carefully, buy a car that will go up in value , cars that were popular when new will be popular when old ie. 55-57 Chevrolet, Ford v-8's etc. Good Luck

The oscar meyer wiener mobile!! WHY? Just because I would rearend this one asshole who cuts me off like every other day on the day to work hahahahahaa he who laughs last

  20. I guess this makes me pretty boreing but I would probably continue work on the two that are currently in my way. maybe I'd collect bits n pieces for a future build, I'd still like to own a 38 or 9 bull nosed coupe, and a 34 pickup before I move to the other side of the grass.

  21. I looked into refinacing my house to buy my friends beautiful 34 5 window for 30K...and almost did..but after being at home and sitting in my one car garage with my half completed 4 pickup I refinanced and am building a large shop. I though it was for the best, plus it makes your house worth quite a bit more :)

I'd buy the batmobile. The one from the Keaton movie. I love that car. If I had any change left over, I'd buy the finkosel.

I don't know that I'd go buy another. What I would do is to choose my favorite and then do it exactly like I wanted it, no corners cut, no cost spared and then enjoy it the rest of my life. If I didn't have my favorite car already, I'd find the project vehicle and start from there.

As you all know already, there is just that certain satisfaction to using what you build but this time, without cost cutting.
