I purchased a really nice early 50's Halibrand 201 6-18-23. It had been in a race car with an open 2" tube axle. Had a customer from Florida said he wanted it 6-21-23. He said he would bring the doner rear end to NC 6-28.23. He arrived at 4 PM. I pulled his pinion and ground it for the cover bearing. I had already pulled the old QC pinion. I installed his pinion at 8.30 PM and took a 30 minute break to have an orange. When case was cool enough I set the pinion bearing preload. Started with a .005" gasket on the right and a .003 on the left. Back lash oh so close but no preload on the carrier bearings. Took a 30 minute break at 10.30 PM to have a hot dog. Removed both gaskets. Backlash and preload now perfect. 1 AM went to bed. Back to work at 7.30 AM for final****embly. Customer arrived from motel 9.30. Showed him my hot rods etc. Went to my favorite C C 's Pizza. Loaded up QC and he was on his way. $4,200.00 with new Winters 3.33 change gears. Busting my***** just like the old days building and repairing race cars. Turning 88 next month. PS; Lots of patina left on center section. Going in 32 steel roadster that was raced at Union Grove, Wisconsin. What a good home!!!! 2023-06-29 17.00.09.jpg

It was the freezing cold. snow, salt and taxes that made me leave Wisconsin 35 years ago.
