how the hell do you set your timing when the battery is in the trunk and the timing light wont reach? small chevy in a 55....the pointer is on the driverside and the batt is in the trunk on passenger side.....i must be tired to not figure this out...im not experienced enough to go by ear and i thought about two sets of jumper cables to make it from the engine to trunk...
I would get it from the solenoid too. Just be carful your leads dont get near hot pipes or headers. Roach
Yup, like when you are sitting on the side of the road and say"man, if we only had a 10 foot chunk of 14g we could drive this thing home!"
hahahah right on... ill set the timing off the solenoid, and ill make a set of 14g for an emergency hahh, great ideas, thanks
Not that it'll help this time, but another good reason to use a Ford solenoid on the firewall or inner fender panel. Larry T
You don't have to use the battery in your car. You can get power from an adjacent car or a battery sitting on the floor. I used to check the advance on my BSA 500 single 4-stroke bike's magneto by getting power from the car parked next to it and connecting the timing light pickup to the spark plug wire. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fwiw - Installling a full time power terminal on the firewall may turn out to be a great convenience. I use the alternator 10 gage lead on my roadster, but it's hard to get to....
I've got a battery powered timing light for just such occasions.... looks like this one... http://www.magnumforce.com/store/detail.asp?ProductID=2360
use your battery charger.... just like when you check your trailer light connctions 12 volts is 12 volts
